Re: Ibanez screws it’s S buyers over again..
Still Ibanez needs to bring back the thinnest neck on their thinnest guitar. It just pisses me off. Either start making atleast ONE S in Japan again, or start making prestige wizards in Korea. I don't care which.
There should be a bridge option as well. I'd love to get a S with an EdgePro.
And no middle pickup.
2002 is the year the S peaked IMHO.
If Ibanez took the 2002 S Prestige and made it a neck-through design it would have had itself a winner.
Ibanez is going backwards with it. Making it entirely a cheap guitar.

Re: Ibanez screws it’s S buyers over again..
It's about 40/64ths on the S2170.
It's about 48/64ths on the 97 S540FMTP.
The 90 S540 is 48/64ths too...so there is part of the problem.
Which is why I said b4 that if they had to use that wizard II neck, the
neck joint
should deeper in the body of the guitar.

Anyway the proof is in the pudding...there it is. They ****ed up the S series.
Who cares ...it's just a cheapo guitar anyway.

Measure BOTH pocket depths. Then measure both heels.
The Wizard will nearly never return [nearly because it is on the RG20]. When you replace as many that go bad as Ibanez did then you'd probably make the same call.

The fifth would be KILLER if it didn't have

I am willing to overlook the ZR because it's a KILLER system.
But the Wizard HAS to make a comeback to these guitars.
Why wouldn't Ibanez put it's thinnest neck on it's thinnest guitar?
Atleast on ONE model. I don't think that is much to ask.
I have never been an S user (can't afford to be, that's all) but even with the features you would have liked, I don't think those guitars come even close to the original S series -- especially the
Frank Gambale
DY with matching coloured inlays.
The last pic? WTF is THAT colour? It's like plaster, or evil coloured old women's foundation make-up for those old, overly-tanned leather-skinned hags. The claw inlay is terrible, I agree, and actually I don't mind the middle pickup, at least it gets good sounds with that single coil (my opinion).
The obnoxious binding totally ruins the first one. It screams "CHEAP!" like those very inexpensive Peavey V-Type's and the Schecter's. This kind of binding is getting used a lot on low-end instruments these days and it was an awful move by Ibanez to put it on an S guitar. I have no comment on the 3rd. It's a "seen it all before" guitar. Nothing interesting at all there. And the 4th one? 1980's TV cabinet made out of fake black ash. Simply NASTY. But yeah, the Wizard should make a comeback on the S and the RG's... if only they could somehow fix the problems.
Better luck next year man.

Re: Ibanez screws it’s S buyers over again..
I have all 3 neck profiles and all 3 "good" trems that were availble on the S.
I've had the 1990 S540LTD since new.
Some pics.....

The neck heels are approx. the same on all 3..it's the neck pocket depth that is causing the fretboard to be raised on ALL of the NEW S guitars.
Oh, my 16 year old, 1 pc., original wizard has held up fine. Maybe I'm careful with my guitars?

I never said all Wizards go to the fireplace, I said when you replace as many as Ibanez does eventually you make the decision.
Measure the old and new pocket depths. I'll be seeing Mak at NAMM and I'll pass the problem along.

I did that.
40/64" on the 2006 S2170.
48/64" on the 1997 S540FMTP.
1990 S540 is 48/64" too...so there is part of the problem
The neck heels are all about the same.
Maybe I'm missing what you want???

Re: Ibanez screws it’s S buyers over again..
You edited and added, I can't see edits reading by email.
So 5/8" [about 16mm] and 3/4" [about 19mm]
Looks like more than 3mm of extra neck exposed in the pics but it may be close.

Re: Ibanez screws it’s S buyers over again..
Put it this way, the neck joint could be at LEAST an 1/8th of an inch deeper. So yeah, about 3mm.. a little more.
