Ibanez VBT700 GAS

Just found an Ibanez VBT700 on fleabay, mint condition with case for £379.00. I've been hankering for one of these since I played one at the London Guitar Show two years ago, but didn't have the funds to purchase one until now. Having a brows on the bay, I find one, mint condition, with case, great price. Ached for a while over whether I should do it, but decided to go for it. It turned out the seller was Guitar Mania in Dorset, I phoned them and discussed the sale and they were very helpful, the guitar should be with me on Monday, I'll post pics when it arrives.

Good stuff, they are great guitars. A pity that they had such a short run.

Aye, I never figured out why Ibanez canned them so soon.

Re: Ibanez VBT700 GAS

Good score! The only guy I know who has one has vowed never to part with it.

I really liked the VBT700 and Xiphos. I wish Dave Mustaine went with Ibanez instead of Dean, and used the VBT700 as the basis for a signature model.

Apparently Dean were going to put a lawsuit against them.

Re: Ibanez VBT700 GAS

Odd. I had a look on the Dean website and the closest looking V to the VBT700 is the Michael Amott sig, but I don't think its similar enough to warrant a lawsuit. Shame Ibanez decided not to contest the suit and settled on dropping the VBT700.

Re: Ibanez VBT700 GAS

Does anyone have any idea how many were made?

I have a white one myself, and I think it's a great guitar, but I just can't get comfortable with the shape.

Rock on!

Re: Ibanez VBT700 GAS

I find them comfortable to play when sitting if you balance the horns either side of one leg, so the neck is almost upright as if you were playing in a classical guitar position.

Also, googling Flying V for a picture that might help me explain (failed at that, sorry) I came across this image... I wouldn't mind playing this.

Re: Ibanez VBT700 GAS

It started out as a prototype for Sam Totman's signature guitar. Somebody (Apparently Dean) threatened to sue. Then canned it. Only was around for one year and it is a great guitar.

One of the few Flying Vs I would play. Don't know why but I just don't like the look of most of them. Plus I do not like Iceman's and Dragonforce is one of my favourite bands. Damn Dean.

Re: Ibanez VBT700 GAS

It's arrived! I've checked everything over, very good condition. One small crack in the paint by the strap pin on the upper horn, kinda noticeable but then again, its on the back so the only person who's going to see it is me. I might be able to repair that actually. it came set up with 009 - 042 as I asked and had a good setup done before it left the shop, I'm very pleased and thankful they were willing to do that.
As for sounds, the D Activator pickups sound great. Very heavy and chunky with overdrive, but clean they actually sound very nice. I was quite surprised by that after reading about D Activators yesterday, supposed to compete with active EMGs and they do the job, but I was quite shocked how good they can sound clean. They allow for some really beautiful tones.

Anyway, my camera is on charge and pics will come in a bit.

Nice! I'm actually not a big fan of the D-activators (in the Xiphos anyways), but there are tons of possible reasons for that!

Picture time!

Whole beasty.

Headstock close up.

Guitar body close up. Yes those are clip locks, no I haven't dinged the body with them... yet. I'm being very careful about that whenever I put her back in the case.

Gorgeous. That white one is a real beauty. I'd love to have one of these someday. Or maybe I'll built one of these someday, when I have finished my current build. Happy NGD.
