Ibanez vs. Fender

Hey,
I got a new Ibanez for christmas, and i don't know a thing about it. Thus the name. Anyways it says Ibanez RX series on the front and on the back it has the serial number and says RX 20. A friend of mine keeps deeming his Fender Squire better than mine and I dont know whether or not he's right, Please be brutally honest with me, is he right and whats the difference?
Thanks,
BK

They're both decent guitars, but I think the Ibanez is a bit higher quality, tho I don't know for sure. I have a Squire, and they're ok, but they're really iffy on the QC (Quality Control), mine's got a few minor flaws, but I've seen some really bad ones. Low-end Ibanez's are still very decent guitars.

A Squire is not a real Fender The Fender part costs extra...

If he had a real Fender Stratocaster, then it probably would be better. But Squire is much lower quality... so I'd say the Ibanez is better too...

P.S. Btw, you're on Jemsite, I think most people would say Ibanez is better :P

it really doesn't matter whose guitar is better. what matters is the player. who's better, you or him?

A better way to ask the question would have been "Which is better, apples or oranges?"

Where's your buddy's Squier made? Chances are both your guitars are made in the same factory in either Indonesia or China. By that I'd suggest that your guitars are equal in most respects. The difference in which guitar is "better" boils down to pickup configuration - that's a totally personal preference. Again, which do you like better?

As far as I know the Ibanez GIO range (GRX20, GRX40, etc) are being build in Indonesia in a Yamaha factory right next to the entry level Pacificas, like the PAC012, PAC112 and PAC120.

From what I've heard everyone out there praises the Pacifica's for being the best starter guitars on the market so I would imagine that the GOI's are just as good as they go through the same QC.

I think the GRX20 is a bit better, but not by much.

Agreeing 100% with spacenuke. I've heard guys do stuff on beat-all-to-hell Squiers that they'd have a hard tome selling for more than $50 that makes me embarrassed to play the guitar i do.

Squires are awfully inconsistant- every once in a while you get one that can hang with anything Fender's ever made, but most aren't anything more than "name brand" beginners' guitars. It's like playing the lottery... I haven't had any experience with the RX series, but i'd imagine that they're more uniform- ibanez guitars seem pretty consistant from one guitar to the next, to me.

yep, agreed. most Squiers i've tried at guitar stores are pretty awful, but I've tried a Tom Delonge Squier at Sam Ash that was awesome. The only difference I can tell between the Squier Tom Delonge and the Fender Tom Delonge was the fret size. At US$179, I was so tempted to pick it up.

I bought a squire a few years ago with a floyd rose and 2 hums, that was pretty impressive for the 170 dollar price tag. I gave it to a buddy of mine a year ago, and every time I go over there to play it the action is still perfect and it stays in tune great. It was really quite comfy, and I had entertained the thought of putting some pickups/electronics in it and keeping it around, but I though it would be nice to give it to a budding guitarist.

Well, I own a GRX40CA from 1997 as my main axe. People are always stunned when they see, hear, play and feel the thing. AFTER they did just that, I tell them it costed me only Fl399,- (E170,-). Then they wanna throw things at my head and start NOT believing me.
I dunno what it is with my axe, but I guess it's just a good example of an almost perfect GRX. I've played a lot of Squier Strats and Tellys. They can't compare IMO. The Gio's are a lot more comfy and sound more brutal because of the humbucker. The neck doesn't feel like a baseball bat and most parts of the axe are just better in quality!
The only thing that still bothers me is that my nut has bad grooves in it. Not one Pacifica or Squier that I've tried had a bad grooved nut. It means that I cannot use the tremelo. I have to get myself a new graphite nut!
When it comes to a good beginners guitar, practically any Squier, Gio or Pacifica is good! Just do not buy those Epiphone beginner things, they're terrible! The Dean acoustic beginnerspack also looks great, haven't tried it though.

Yeah I payed 170 for it at Sam Ashole.
My buddy bough one of the Gio's from Sam Ashole and it had 2 frets that were totally muted by the fret below them.

I have two Rogue ST-3's from the Indonesia plant. Both play better than my Fender and give me a wide array of tone's. Do they compare with my Ibanez? NO, but they only cost me $80.00. My buddy has Strat with '57 neck and seymore duncs hums in it and he can't believe what I do with my $80. knockoff!! (no mods on them either) Any way their QC over there seems to be focused on mechanics as opposed to aesthetics as mine were full of imperfections ie. runs in finish, router marks around curves, etc, but they have it where it counts. point being that unless I get both guitars in my hands, I can't tell you which is better.

Truthfully there are so many variables with Fender and or Gibson with regard to quality that it just comes down to what spacenuke said
