Ibanez xiphos
hey guys, i was just wondering if its possible to swap out the edge III trem bridge that comes stock on the guitar, with a
edge pro bridge
. i like the guitar but hate the bridge. IS the edge pro replaceable on most
ibanez guitars
? and specifically the xiphos?

Re: Ibanez xiphos
to my understanding, an OFR is directly replacable with an Edge III... but an Edge Pro can't be fitted to an Edge III route. Not sure how much more wood needs to be cut to get an Edge Pro fitted into an Edge III... i think some jemsiters did have done that to their RG's...

Re: Ibanez xiphos
I've seen a few people fit an Edge Pro in to the Edge III route with no wood work, so it could be possible. If it doesn't quite fit you can probably just sand the route a little by hand or with a dremmel.

Re: Ibanez xiphos
Right now I'm rebuilding an RG. I'm gonna be using the Edge III since the body I'm using has the edge iii route and does not fit my schallers. I've tightened up the trem posts, and I'm going to properly lubricate the bridge to posts contacts. If it still doesn't pull into tune after dives after doing this, I'm gonna have to buy a new OFR. All my OFRs are currenly being used, so I can't test take one to test fit it. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Re: Ibanez xiphos
it is ALMOST a direct swap from an edge III to an OFR, i don't know about an edge pro. The top locking nut may need to shimmed because the floyd nuts are 10" radiused. Also, you will need to expand the mounting screw holes for the larger OFR mounting screws. After you shim it and drill bigger holes for mounting screws, you should be fine though. Am I the first one to put an OFR on a Xiphos? jw, cuz i've never seen it done before. I would post pics, but I don't have a post count high enough.... i'm a noob

Re: Ibanez xiphos
i've replaced about 5 Edge-III with EdgePros, directly, no wood works nor screw holes adapting. just swapping them out. so i'd say it is a direct swap, BUT, last week, a guy wrote me saying he couldn't swap it out without some wood works, also, the trem couldn't go pull-ups.
i don't know what to think at this point. damn Ibanez...
