iceman for shredding?

How is the ic400 for shredding? I've been looking for a hardtail Ibanez and thought that the iceman could be my ticket but I haven't had a chance to try one out. Anything else I should know about these?

Re: iceman for shredding?

Thanks. I'm wondering because I always see your typical shredders using rg's or s types or v's for all the "speedy" techniques - sweeping, tapping etc. So I was wondering if any of the iceman owners or users here found the neck to be good for that and the sound to be appropriate. I'm hoping it's a yes.

Re: iceman for shredding?

It's the player, not the guitar. Al Dimeola can kill on a Les Paul, Yngwie can shred on a strat, Michael Angelo uses Deans now, Gilbert uses Ibanez, etc etc

Re: iceman for shredding?

Elcid, I definitely agree to a certain extent. But on the other hand I can do some things on some of my guitars that I can't do quite as well on others. Plus I'm not Al Dimeola or Yngwie so I need every advantage I can get.

Re: iceman for shredding?

Sure you could. The main thing those guys did was work hard to get where they are, they aren't magic players, just extremely dedicated. I'm sure anything you give them they can play the hell out of. If you want an Iceman, pick one up and play the fk out of it. Eventually you'll be able to play anything on it you could on a "shred" guitar.

Re: iceman for shredding?

Hmm... I can shred on any decent guitar. And the iceman is certainly more than decent.

Thats the example I was going to use.
Paul Gilbert (especially in the last year) has been using the old rocket roll flying v's and destoyers. And he certainly hasnt got a problem. And I have seen a few iceman videos of him too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPTTqsl-Hrg

Check out that video too, he's using an old Ibanez Artist Hollowbody, and still sounds amazing.

Like elcid said, definitely the player, not the guitar.

As long as it sets up properly and stays in tune then all guitars are good for shredding. anIC400 will give you zero advantage over anything else you choose to buy.

Re: iceman for shredding?

i'm just glad the IC400 survived another year but i hope we see a Prestige one in the near future - not because i'm a snob (well maybe ) but it would be nice to get one of a little higher build upgraded from the current IC400. i like the IC400 and for the price it will eventually find its way into my arsenal but i dream of a new Prestige version.
once you properly set up a guitar to your personal taste, you should be able to play it to your full ability whatever that might be. if it is a crap guitar that won't stay in tune or set up properly then obviously you won't be able to perform to your best - the IC400 does not fall into this "crap" category. it's not quite a MIJ quality offering but none the less is a good standard machine with years of coolness attached that i would be (will be) proud to own. VIVA LA ICEMAN!
