The
neck dimensions are different from an RG. You can look up the actual specs and see what makes them different in that category.
I've never played a bolt-on version so I can't say anything about that, but I have owned a fair number of Explorers (and plan to buy another one this year). I do have the IC400 and it isn't quite the same as any of the Explorers I've owned. It's hard to describe what makes them different but they are very different IMHO. I would have to try the same pickups in both guiatrs to really give a good "this vs that" answer.
I have a JB and a
PAF Pro in my current IC400 that sounds thick and all around good to me, but there is something lacking on the IC400 that I heard and felt with the Explorer. The Explorer seemed more organic in tone and had more balls, I just don't know what causes that to be the case other than the pickups and electronics since they are both set-neck guitars with mahogany bodies and necks and I believe both are 24 3/4 scale as well.
I don't think it is just the pickups as the IC400 isn't as resonant playing unplugged as the Explorer was. Just my 2cents.
cheers
