Identify this Roadstar II

Hey guys! My name is Kitty. I've prowled around the JEMSITE for long time but never joined. Here's my first post. I just bought a new Ibanez on E%ay.
The serial number is:
G850625

I can't find this guitar in any of the catalogs from 1985 or 1986. It is an H-H model, with no tone knob in seafoam green. I plan on adding a white pearl pickguard to it, and changing the black hardware to white. I have no idea where to find a pickguard for this exact guitar.
Do you guys know anything about this guitar and why I can't find another like it?

I know its gotta be from the pre-1986 era because its got the PROROCKR bridge. Also, the serial number isnt on the headstock, unless the sticker fell off. but the headstock matches the body, so no one repainted it.

Let me know what you guys think!

Re: Identify this Roadstar II

Looks like a 1985 RS420, though the catalog doesn't list a seafoam green option, only black and "Powder Blue":

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/...t_id=118&now=1

Serial confirms it as a '85. During that era the serial only appeared on the neckplate; I've got an '83 RS405PW that is similar but in a SSS config.

I don't think Ibanez ever had a HH pickguard on that bodystyle, so you're not going to find a stock piece that works. You can trace out your own shape and have one custom made (or see if you can find an RS430 pickguard to use as a starting point). But I'd leave it bare if it were mine.

Looks like it's in great shape - nice find!

That's surely a collector's piece. Rare specs for one of those and great shape.

please, if you really feel the need to put a pickguard on this beauty, stick it on with double-stick tape, not screws.

+1

Too many of these nice old Roadstars have been butchered and hacked. Please don't do that to this one. It's a great clean and perfect example of an '85 RG420!

Re: Identify this Roadstar II

I could use some help identifying my Roadstar as well. Serial is A850079 . It's specs don't seem to match any 85 models that I can see. It is white and has a curved top. 2 blade humbuckers and a pro-rock'r locking trem. Chrome hardware and a 22 fret neck.

Any info would be appreciated. I love this thing!

That looks like an '85 RS525PW to me. Non-stock pickups, though.

Yeah, the arched top, chrome hardware, pickups and the fact that it has 22 frets all seem to be different from the models shown on the catalogs. I can't seem to find another one with similar specs anywhere.

Re: Identify this Roadstar II

D'oh... was in a hurry and missed those details. In the photo the trim looked like it could have been gold once upon a time. The extra frets, though...

Also, I take back my comment on the pickups. These look like stock V5's.

According to the '85 catalog, the RS525 had an arched top, though it doesn't really look like it in the photos. The RS1300 definitely had an arched top (and 22 frets) but the body edge on yours looks more rounded like the 525.

A very interesting and unique combination of parts. Maybe a Japanese or Euro-only model? Anyone else have a lead?

Nobody knows what this thing is? Any suggestions of how I can identify this model?

You could always ask at ibanezcollectors.com. If those guys don't know, no one does.
