Is it possible to refinish a guitar with a flame veneer?

I've always liked guitars with a "slime" burst - bright yellowgreen to green on the outside. I also love Ibanez S guitars, but the closest color I've seen to this paint scheme is this ugly turquoise to dark blue.

But, those turquoise guitars don't go for that much cash. I want to ask here about refinishing one to the finish I'd like.

I have a 540S that came with a big paint chip on the back, and I can see that there is a clear coat on the veneer before the paint goes on. I talked to someone else about this a while back, and they said that the actual finish is on the clear coat, and the wood isn't stained. I'm wondering if this would be true for all H&S made S series guitars back then.

I would definitely get this done by a professional. If no one here has an answer, could they tell me if they know of someone who would have one?

Cheers!

I think they seal the veneer first, then use a tint. Veneer doesn't except stains or dyes like real wood, but they could do it either way. I would have to see it. If you want to send me the guitar I can do it.

Most of the factory Ibanez paint jobs I've seen are as you describe - they tint the clear, not stain the wood.
