IS IT SAFE TO RE-SHAPE A WIZZARD II NECK??

I'm thinking about trying to slim down a wizzard II neck
from a RG270. I was gong to spec my '87 550 neck with
a micrometer at different fret intervals. I thought I would
start with some 80 grit and work my way up. If I'm carefull, will
this be O.K.?? Is it easy to destroy a neck doing this?
Is the truss rod set at a different distance from the fret board
from neck to neck?? Farther away on a thicker neck and closer
on a thinner neck??

i sanded a gibson explorer neck down some. it was fine. A friend of mine re carved his 470 neck also. it's now way thinner than a wizard and it's fine also.
