Is the RG390 the rarist guitar ever made???

Please excuse my humour, I have been trying to find out about my guitar, I bought it in 98 from london. as you can see from the images it looks like a poor mans Jem.. it is really but fantastic tone and hugely versatile with it. I would like to know what the body is constructed of and how many there were actually run? I have been on Vai.com and pretty much every other site there is... even in the 98 catalogue I cant find one... there are players reports and coming in Black or white... mine is black with out the pink looking pearlescent pickguard.

have more but that should do for now. kind regards,

Bri

Looks like a 3 or 470 w/ a pickguard on it. Looks to be rear routed for the controls too since they'd pretty much not have the switch mounted under the guard (you can see how the screws go through the top of the body and into the switch) and have the switch slot routed wider on the guard to compensate...

Gold strings! What brand are they? I've been looking for gold coloured strings for my JEM 7VWH for ages :-)

Company called Maxima makes gold strings.

That guitar looks aftermarket modified, does it have RG390 on the back of the headstock? I don't think Ibanez ever used a RGx90 naming scheme.

Hi all,
Cheers for the replies... definately an RG390 yes Optima gold strings, maxima used to make them, they come at a bit of a price, but I like the tone... they dont corrode tested them once without cleaning... started losing their tonality after about six months about £10 per packet but save a bit more in the long run. these are .009 to .042.... however best news today, just received my first Jem... 90th ham happy days !!!

Re: Is the RG390 the rarist guitar ever made???

Hello, although the RG390 is truly the rarest guitar in the world, it was/is not expensive.
I just got an ad via e-mail with a LES PAUL for over half a million dollars. The current owners of GIBSON declared the 1959 LES PAULS, 300 made, would not pass today's standards.
There are several sites mostly in CHINA, REMEMBER THOSE $20 jems FROM china ON ****?, just GOGGLE 'rg390' and remember to hit translate this page. There you will see they sell them for $300 - $500.

P.S. BRIAN MAY OPTIMA GOLD GUITAR STRINGS are about $35 and I think they are Italian. URBAN LEGEND In the 60's and 70's Jazz cats used GOLD GUITAR strings on BIRDLAND guitars because they were rumoured to last forever. - j4vice 4.20.7

LOL - this thread is 2 years old...

I thought it hilarious that Brit's couch match the interior of some Jem cases!
