Is this Bad?

I might buy a used Rg, but is this bad? Its a crack near the locking nut.

Re: Is this Bad?

Well it's not good. For about as cheap and as abundant as these guitars are on the market right now, i wouldn't lower my standards to get one with a neck crack. It doesn't mean it will break, but it could lead to problems down the road. We can't always spot what will go wrong with a guitar, but when we can, it's best to be smart and move away.

My advice, but if you really must - than it shouldn't stop you from playing it, but i'd still be careful or even better not buy it.

Actually how much are you selling it for ? I live in Canada too and might be selling my RGT42dx with evo pickups soon. It's an amazing guitars, but i now have two jems and will have a prestige. That along to my Fender strat, and my numerous other guitars. Thing is, i need to downsize. I may regret selling it, but it's necessary and i might need the money soon. So let me know how you're willing to pay for that one, who knows, i might be able to let you have my neck-thru baby loaded with the evo's for cheaper.

if you want that is.

Nut cracks like this are common on rear-mount lock nuts. Most of them won't affect anything too badly, if at all. The reason they are like this is because someone tightened the bolts too tight. They are not desirable, of course, but if you ever see a guitar like this and the price is good it shouldn't be enough to force you to avoid a bargain.

Re: Is this Bad?

I wanted to say what Dee said but considering I'm selling a 7 string with a nut crack on it, it kinda looks bad on me!

Re: Is this Bad?

As long as the price takes the crack into account I wouldn't have a problem with that. Is it the RG7420 you're selling, btw? £200-ish seems good.

Re: Is this Bad?

Well that exactly it, you have to price at what's something is worth because if you don't I think it speaks volumes about the seller's character. That 7-string is beat up and should go £250 max. Some spit, polish and elbow grease would change that though

Re: Is this Bad?

That is mine. Most of my MIK have the same crack, my MIJ don't. I think it is do to the way the necks are made.
