What would you consider a fair price?

I would not consider it a fair price for a body, neck, and case missing a latch. You can get a good used 550ish or S for around 400-500. That is just my opinion friend.

$400-$450 shipped will buy you a ready to go 550 if you watch the bay. That seller has maybe $200 worth of parts...

He's lowered it to $250 now, and considering it includes the case, I'd say that's a pretty decent deal.

yeah, its not a bad deal, i think it will move at that price. Why would anyone EVER consider refinishing an '87 RFR ?!

Re: Is this too much for an RG550 project w/ case?
Well, I refinished an RFR once. Yes, it was a stupid move which I later regretted, but mine had been through gigging hell for a couple of years and I wanted a natural finish instead. Basswood just ends up looking crap, though! No grain, just boring looking wood. What the hell I was thinking, I have no idea. I guess I wasn't really thinking at all. Also, it just didn't click how rare they are. RFR was produced for one year only (1987). No other
Ibanez
guitar ever made features the Road Flare finish.
I'm happy to own an RG20th in RFR now.
