Looking to identify (what I can) about my Ibanez Les Paul copy.

I know she's not in the best of shape but it was my first "real" guitar I owned... I got it when I was a kid (14-16?), I think I paid 150-250 (probably more on the lower end) and it came with a "massive" quantum 25w head and two double 8" cabinets... haha!

Other than a few things she's in decent shape and plays well... of course there is neglect and the beating she's taken (no case all this time) and few things I've probably lost (knobs, truss rod cover.. said "Custom", tip and plate for large switch). It had some small switches between the knobs but it didn't have original pickups when I got it so I assume it was aftermarket. Sadly she's basically been my "beater" all these years.

Anyway, here are the pics... I was wondering if anyone knew what year or any other info they might have on this guy.

One thing I haven't really seen on many is the "crown" it has on the tip of the headstock.

And thanks for everyone that replied. It has puzzled me for years (after I found out there was a lawsuit and all) at what year this was. I never realized the lawsuit was strictly about the headstock... seems kind of lame in that regard.

Anyone know what the specs are? What kind of wood and such?

Birch top, mahogany body according to the '76 catalogue.

Set neck or Bolt? If its a set neck its solid body if not its laminate with air pockets all over. Best thing I feel about these LP copies were the Super 70s pickups, to bad yours are missing.

It's Bolt. Definitely not the solid body.

Not sure if those are the only 76 models... mine is the same headstock style but I don't have any gold hardware and I don't think my fingerboard is "ebonized" rosewood... just rosewood.

I've got chrome hardware with "pearl" tuning keys.

Re: Looking to identify (what I can) about my Ibanez Les Paul copy.

'Ebonized' just means they died it black. It doesn't last long, definitely not 30 years if you play it! Also, yours has changed out tuners so its possible the rest of the hardware has been changed out as well. We're not talking about a pristine collector here. Those DEFINITELY aren't the original tuners, possibly has no original hardware at all and the original pickups are gone as well. You can always post a thread over on Ibanezcollectors.com and ask those guys what they think of it; those guys are the masters of 60's and 70's Ibanezes.

Hmm, my inlay is different as well.

Yeah, I know it's not a collector by any means... as I said... it's basically been my "beater"... no case just kind of tossed around and propped up wherever I may be when done with her.

Have a look around the old catalogs if you want, lots of cool old stuff in them, like my '78 FA100NT and '77 2471
