Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
I've still not made it to Guitar Center to check out these models that I've been hearing about but has anyone else given them a good work in and would you say that the "EMG designed pickups" that they are equipped with are better/worse/the same as the EMG-HZ pickups?

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
On tht S guitar people say its black pearl but im not sure cos ive got a b.p. rgt42 and i was surprised how much blacker it is than the pics you see on the ibanez site, there must have been a hell of a lot of light tht day.
also it was in total guitar a while back that he said that he hated 7 strings due to stupid teenagers asking to be "heavy", it was an issue, predominantly about him and
kerry king
(who stuck to bc rich when he too could have an ibanez!!)

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
Man, I don't know why I have not read this thread before now. But there it is...
About a month and a half ago I got to see and strum those RG's and S. I went up the the Slipknot show in Minneapolis with Jim Root for a photo shoot. The bass player for Stone Sour, Sean, is Micks Guitar Tech. So I was backstage checking out his rig. Silver S, Black and Red neckthrough RG's. Then I saw the white one. OMG! That White one is the goods, let me tell you. I got it straight from Micks mouth that at the time, the white one was his favorite. He did the first 6 numbers that night with the white RG. Then hew switched to the red one for the rest of the show...
All of his Ibanez were made by a guy named Tak...
I talked to Mick about Ibanez for about an hour before the show. In the dressing room we sat and talked about our favorite models and whatnot. He has a TON of Ibanez knowledge. Owns a ton of RG's. He seems to like 560's. I think he said he had 11 of them. I asked if he had ever owned a 565, he had not but was looking for one. He talked about the bridge and how it was discontinued but Ibanez found some for him to use. He was quite adamant about using that bridge. All in all I'd say he's quite happy with Ibanez. Even though he did have a pretty sweet deal with B.C. Rich...
Then, not too long after the tour cycle was over, Jim and I stopped over at his house to drop off the keys to the warehouse so Mick could get those sweet Ibanez out of the Guitar Coffin. I was sitting in the truck and Jim was at the door talking to Mick. Then Jim motions me to come to the door. Mick is holding another new Ibanez that he just got. He told them he wanted a bolt-on RG with a floating trem. You guys should have seen this one and I wish I had pics of it. It was a typical Mick RG, 24 frets, Seven inlay, Ebony board,
Reverse Headstock
. The only differences were the bolt on neck and the finish. The body was mahogany with a thick
flamed maple
top on it in a natural finish. The headstock was flamed as well in Natural. I about slipped and broke my neck in drool, it was soo flamey. I about died it was so beautiful. That one was not made by Tak, it was made by the dude under Tak, whoever that is...
That one Ibanez sent Jim reeling. I remember him saying maybe he should switch to Ibanez. But he's totally happy with Charvel. I did say he needed some nice flamed topped Charvels, he agreed...
And about the side markers, it's so he can see them in the dark. He takes a Sharpie and makes the small dots bigger so he can see them on stage. Ibanez caught wind of this and made the dots bigger for him so he could save the Sharpie. Kinda cool, I think...

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
We didn't talk really about the availability of a Signature model. It seemed to me that there would be a release. I'm thinking that it was going to be the red with black binding one. But I don't know about other finish options or anything like that. I do also remember Mick saying something about wanting to make them cheaper then Jems...

cool thanks!
i hope they do release a mick thomson ibanez rg, i would prefere the black and white one, but im not gonna say no to the red and black one.
it would be better if it were cheaper than jems because im sure that 90% of those who would buy the mick sig guitar would be teenagers, meaning that they would have loads of money to spend on a guitar. heck im 17 and im still in educations so i cant afford jack ****.
will you ever be seeing mick soon? if so, it would be awesome to get more information about his signature, im quite a big slipknot fan so the chances are im gonna get it.
his bolt on/trem rg sounds sweet...

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
I wouldn't rule out a Mick 7 model at sometime soon....and when it come out (gets on body armor) it may out sell the jem and a few other
Ibanez guitars
....A buddy or mine who works at a local shop said he's had kids asking for something like Mick's RG's he can't keep the RG 321 in stock.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
I would, and defenitely will buy one when it comes out. I think they will be a big seller, and make lots of money for Ibanez. More of todays "popular" or "mainstream" metal/rock bands are now playing Ibanez. Which can only be a good thing.
I have wanted a Mick RG ever since I first saw him with one.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
the irony of the discussion about Micks' guitar is that fixed tail bridges are becoming more common than
Floyd rose
equipped ones...but that isn't a bad thing...I've tried out the RG 321...I loved it....I've also had the good fortune of trying out the RGA 121....both were amazing in all respects....but the 321 had one thing over its' high end cousin....a bigger electronics cavity to drop in
EMG active
pick ups!

Yeah, plus it has
pickup rings
so the EMG humbuckers will fit into the guitar without any modifications. The RGAs really weren't made with EMGs in mind.

Bare in mind that the K7 is sort of a niche market. How many baggy-pants wearing nu-metal parent-hating teenagers do you know that can afford a $2000 axe?
(not sure on the price, i'm just guessing it's around that price).
The K7 would have been a great guitar... Just take of the inlay and they would sell pretty well. People are always after different wood bodies.
Though i agree the
Mick Thompson
guitar may link in with the K7. If they make it an affordable guitar around £500-700odd, it'd be fine. Much like the
Zakk Wylde
Epiphones it'd probably have EMG-HZ's, but ya can't have it all aye
The inlay would also be a bit of a bitch and would narrow the guitar down to only Slipknot fans, but meh.

huh.....Did they discontinue that? I can't find that guitar on the Ibanez site anymore, or mention of Mick.

thing that gets me is how ibanez didnt see that no one was really buying K7, find out why and change it acordingly.. mabye with a bunch of new guitars due to come out this year they`ll have learnt from there mistakes and bought out a Munky model and they`ll bring out a blank fretbord Mick RG (both of which id buy)
even if you hate nu metal (i grew up with it so i accept it
) you gotta admit these would be sweet guitars
p.s. what happened to smileys??
