It is.
It was confirmed. Made in Korea.
I know we shouldnt judge it by that, but I still do. For that price especially, I would expect a made in Japan guitar. Especially considering as you said, its basically just a suped-up RGT42

I really don't get why "SEVEN" is written on the freakin' case seeing as to how it's the MTM signature model. I would think that they'd write "MTM" or something like that on the case or something. Maybe it's just because all the Slipknot dudes have their number written on all their stuff to keep from getting #3's stuff confused with #5 or something stupid like that.

Honestly, it's like they took the most horrible aspect of that otherwise interesting guitar and kept flaunting it.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

damnit, i soooo wanted this guitar. reverse red headstock. i so wanted to drool all over this but

inlay- we all knew that was gonna be lame. i thought the K7 was bad... this thing spans across the first (ie biggest) five frets.

no binding- just lame

pickups... i knew they were gonna be HZs or something "designed" by EMG. no biggie because most people were gonna dump an 81 in there sooner or later but this just ads to the price.

price- this is what REALLY gets me. they take a possibly awesome guitar, turn it into a mediocre one, but somehow the price stays the same.

all in all. lets say 1300 +
two new EMGs 200
new ebony board 250
binding 50-100? i dunno

you'd besicly spend about $500 extra to get this guitar to what is shoud've been. bumping the price up to 1700 is street. well, looks like ill just have to do a PGM project guitar.

oh yea, and the red case WOULD have been cool but ..... err ibanez... if you really put THIS out for 1300 you've really dropped the ball. (IMHO of course) rant mode off.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

Just to clear something up, the RG does have black "binding". Weather is is real binding or just black paint, I don't know. But it is there, you just can't see it in the price.

I checked out this guitar at NAMM yesterday. The case is dead sexy, don't let that pic fool you. I did pull it off the wall to confirm the MIK stamp, it was there. Real EMGs. Reverse headstock. Kinda sweet...

What was sweeter was the limited edition Geiger S series that was carved on the top, freeking cool inlays on that one. And they had an RG with a puzzle piece top. Ovangol and flamed mahogany pieces made up the top. Freakin nice. The dude I was with, Josh, wanted this guitar so bad. They had a natural one and a red stained one. Matte finish. Sweet...

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

the case is too high profile looking, I wouldn't use it.

And $1600 is too much for a Mick Thompson guitar.

This has been stated repeatedly, if not the point of this thread.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

Price tag isn't the biggest concern....Ibanez in general seems to have taken a different direction the year. there have been pix of some really agressive axes....but the MTM is just about everything we could've expected....First one to try it out should post notes!

Whats the deal with these guitars that dont have tone knobs, the k7 is like this too.

But then again i should also be asking, is it a big disadvantage?

Tone knobs are sort of only there for single-coil sounds i find because they sound harsh sometimes. The K7 has a 3-way switch as does the MTM which means there's no single-coil sounds (and lets face it, when are they ever gonna use single-coils in their music? )

Basically, the tone pot not being there takes the load off the sound meaning better sound. It's almost like taking the view that "the quicker way to the amplifier is the best". E.G - If you put lots of pedals in the chain towards the amplifier, you're slowly editing the sound of the original guitar. It's sort of the same with pots and other crap... I think haha

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

I never use a tone knob anyway, so it doesnt matter to me either way. But I do know alot of people that do use it for various different sounds/uses. I dont exactly think that the Mick Thompson model warrants one though, mainly because its users and the music its used for doesnt warrant a need for a tone knob at all!

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

A common use of the tone knob would be rolling down the tone to play some jazz with the neck pickup, or, with some drive, to get that Clapton "woman tone". It's also useful for rolling down the treble on the bridge pickup, which can sound too harsh at times...

That said a MTM with EMGs is probably not an axe aimed at someone who plays jazz or vintage blues-rock...
