Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
i just can't understand why people are hyped up about this guitar when it's been out for a year or 2 already.
i have not seen anyone post a pic of their MTM which leads me to belive no-one owns one (or they are embarassed that they own one)

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
I just looked at the picture from the Ibanez site, and it looks to me like it has a 60 in the bridge, and 81 in the neck (I am going on the EMG logo color on the pickup).
But I have seen this a lot before for some reason with a lot of guitar brands saying a certain configuration, but displaying another.
I'm sure he's using an 81 B, 60 N, though.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
It says it, and like I said, I'm sure it is, but from the picture above, it looks like a 60 B, and an 81 N.
Also, I have seen specs for guitars that say 81 B and 85 N, but show a picture of 85 B and 81 N.
It wouldn't make a lot of sense to put a 60 in the bridge with an 81 in the neck. I have guitars loaded with just about every possible config of EMGs you can think of, and I know this wouldn't be a good one.
But the pic clearly looks like a 60 B and 81 N. Clearly.

Thats absolute rubbish by the way.
He is an out and out shredder believe it or not. Before Slipknot he was a qualified guitar teacher, and still does teach between tours I believe. He can rip-it up with the best of them. He is just as good as anyone in that department.
Just because he plays in a down-tuned metal band, doesnt mean thats all he can do. Just look at John5. He is amazing, but didnt play anything near his ability in Manson.

Yeah. And I didn't expect him to play country with his image and all.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
The MTM1 is Mick's main stage guitar; he's said that out of his (last I heard) 130 guitars, the ones that Ibanez made for him are by far the finest instruments he owns, so I don't think quality is a concern.
And yes, he's one hell of a guitar player. He's a serious and VERY disciplined musician, not just another doofus with a guitar. I don't think he teaches anymore, but I don't know for sure. He stays pretty busy these days.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
Well I did check out some stuff, and it is better than I expected and he does indeed have some chops (but not to anything of the extent of say Vai or Satriani).
I guess it makes sense, when your profession is
playing guitar
in a band like Slipknot...if I were him I'd find writing that kind of music kind of boring so I'd practice my shredding 24/7 like it seems he does!
And to the John 5 and marilyn manson thing...I don't see why ANYONE would want to be the guitarist of his band...it gives off an aura of...suck. Because once John 5 is on his own he kicks ass!
Each to his own though.
However for the MTM1 $1200 for MIK is too much imo with inconsistency issues. And as you said Ibanez built him his own MTM1...I'd bet money that came from the
Ibanez Custom Shop
. If I had one from there I bet it'd be one of my favorite guitars too! I could be wrong, but it seems many of Ibanez endorsees use the same specs as their endorsed guitars but have them made by Ibanez Custom Shop.
EDIT: Also I'm confused as to why people keep talking about the pups that are in there...it's right on the Ibanez site, the EMG 60 being in the neck and 81 being in the bridge. And geeze tuned down to B...I don't see if he does shred why he wouldn't want a 7 string (though I know he doesn't prefer them normally)...it just seems to make sense as he can play all of his Slipknot songs and have the extended range for solos (if he ever did side projects where he would want to do them). I'm sure he has his reasons. I think it was in this thread someone said he would talk about how kids are dumb for wanting 7 strings because of Korn and Limp Bizkit, maybe he doesn't want to be part of that cliche? As Ibanez really invented the 7 string with Vai I can't see why he'd think 7 strings are merely for that purpose, but once again: to each his own.
And as another said this guitar has been out for quite a while, Luca maybe it's not available in Europe yet but it's been in stores here (as in USA) for quite awhile. I would try one out as a guitar store near me has one, but I don't have much interest as it comes stock in that tuning...getting it too standard would require too much work in a little guitar store and then I'd be expected to tune it back!

Looking at the guitar that was photographed for the site and the catalog you are 100% right.
Either someone clueless installed the 2 pickups the wrong way around or for some reason Mick wants them this way.
I'm going with the clueless tech installing them the wrong way around.

Wrong. That pic is definitley NOT an 81 in the bridge and 60 in the neck.
Absolutely no doubt about it.
I'm 100% sure it's 81 bridge and 60 neck, but that picture is wrong.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
I wouldn't know EMG's by sight at all...I was just talking about the specs listed in words.
I never use stock pics to know what a guitar looks like, I always use a google search and find a real picture of it.

They most certainly did not. Jazz guitarists were playing 7-strings decades ago, and
Michael Schenker
had a 7 string guitar back in the 70s.
And yes, Mick uses an 81 at the bridge and a 60 at the neck. The picture is incorrect.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez
Yes I did know about the jazz guitarists, but for all intents and purposes I was talking about strict solid bodies though I should have said that.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven-s...lectric_Guitar
Now wikipedia isn't always right, but that's where I got that information. Just wanted you to know that even if I'm wrong I didn't pull that out my behind
It is wikipedia, maybe you could add the bit about Schenker?
