I am actually surprised he got 11 custom guitars while being signed for such a short time. Granted, Slipknot are a big band, but that still seems like a lot...

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

When you think about it, 11 guitars isn't really that bad for a musician like Mick who plays all the freakin' time. You figure that at that level you'd need a lot of guitars in case something happened. Hell, I've seen people break strings on 3 different guitars while doing one set. You just never know what will happen live....

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

Let me get this straight... They make him 11 custom guitars and don't intend on bringing ANY of them on the market ? I'm not an economist, but I can't imagine Ibanez' sales increasing simply because of the exposure... If I were a fan and steered towards Ibanez because Mick plays one, I would like to be able to buy the SAME model (or at least something that looks like it H^H^H^H
Jem555H^H^H^H) !

One of the things I think Ibanez WILL gain from this is experience of what younger folks really do want from a guitar.

Yes, Mick appeals to a lot of the younger crowd, the teenagers who are fans of his records, but also his contemporaries in bands that haven't yet been signed.

thus even if Ibanez don't get signature model sales out of him I do believe that they'll increase sales of the RG270 etc because younger guys CAN afford that guitar and it's the closest thing to Micks guitars that they can get. BUT the really clever thing in my opinion is if they listen to what the current generation of late 20s early 30 somthings wants from their hard-rock guitar. If they put Mick's suggestions into a few of the prestige RGs then they're opening up a whoooooooooooole new market with that. Not everyone's into flame maple tops and someof us think that a blood red RG with a reverse headstock and fixed edge would be jsut the ticket....

The only question is if Ibanez is prepared to venture outside of the box anymore?

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

i agree with jono totally, i mean if youre a 15 year old kid that loves slipknot, they can go pick up a red RG120 and itll be similar to micks guitar so itll be cool for them. when i was 12 i wanted an ibanez so bad, i remember wanting to ditch my strat copy for an RG120, lol.

but we will have to wait and see if they take some of micks ideas into production... emg equipped RG would always be a good option. bring back a reverse headstock RG. i dont really think the fx edge will go anywhere as tremolo no or whatever has come out, so with the flip of a switch u can have ur trem back.

i was thinking about putting a 565 neck on a 520 body then some 81s in there. ive always wanted a reverse headstock on an H-H body. but itd still need an extra string

If there will be a mick's signature I'm sure it will have a HZ pickups, and rosewood fretboard. ibanez makes to cheap guitars now. even the JEM VWH has now a rosewood fretboard. also the pained neck won't get to the market I think

but true it's a sweet guitar

Don't JEMs have rosewood because that's what Steve likes anyway?

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

I think you're right, but I'm not sweating the rosewood thing. If Ibanez had a Prestige RG with REAL EMGs, a reverse headstock, and an Edge Pro I guarantee it would sell like crazy. I still don't understand why Ibanez DOESN'T have a guitar that comes stock with EMGs becaue surely enough people out there use them and the demand is there. Now I'm not saying that I'd want a "Mick signature model" but if it didn't have that SEVEN inlay and instead had either the dot inlay that's off to the side or maybe even a Sharktooth inlay, I would buy that guitar in a flash. And Ibanez could charge atleast $1500 for it being a Prestige model and it would still sell.

Mick's a great player, and I really dig his guitars, I just wish he wasn't so negative towards 7 string guitars.

To not like them is one thing, to diss them another thing entirely.

I personally don't understand his argument that kids should start playing on a 6 string guitar and move on to a 7 string if desired.
