I sorta see his point. But I think the argument can be made that by starting on a 7, they become fluent with all the strings, and it's its own instrument, instead of an "extension" of a 6 string.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

To quote the great late Darrell Abbott aka Dimebag Darrell - "Learn to play more than 2 finger chords on a 6 first"...........
That just sums it up - For every Rusty Cooley there are 100s of kids out there who only play the bottom 4 strings of a 7 stringer.

"Please release this thing."

Exactly as it is shown would be nice hardware pickups and all no second rate garbage

Thats the only thing thats getting me worried. I have no doubt Ibanez will release this thing, especially seeing how well his BC Rich model sold. But I feel that Ibanez may make a bit of a rip off version of it. It will probably have no inlay, no EMG's.....

I am seeing Slipknot (and another whole host of bands) at Download Festival next weekend, so I will tell you what he plays there!

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

I'm not too keen on this guitar...kinda plain looking and boring...but to comment on the possible production model, I don't see Ibanez putting EMGs only cause their agreement is with DiMarzio. You can see that all their low-end pickups are made by DiMarzio. Now of course, I think if they do jump into an exact match of his thing, they'll find a way to put EMGs in it, but if it's just an RG similar, fat chance it'll happen...

Don't they have Seymour Duncan's in their SZ models?

not to mention that this inlay really looks a bit off....vine is ok, i covers the hole fretboard, but just SEVEN from first to 5th fret.... a simple "7" @ 12th fret would have done it, or maybe on the body of the guitar... but this just looks odd

Nice guitar, but like the K7.....the inlay sucks. It's just overdone.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

On Mick's BC Rich's, his signature (the NJ one even) had EMG HZ's, not even the active 81's. I think if Ibanez release's a Mick signature, it will have HZ's in 'em, or like that Ibanez S520EXBK, it has those INF pickups that look like EMG's. And very doubtful that it will be a neck-thru also. Just look at the other signatures (excluding the K7 and Jem's and UV's), like Mike Mushok of Staind, his sig. isn't like the customs used onstage, they are almost alike but you see those differences. Or Ibanez could do like the JS's for Mick's signature and put out real expensive good ones like Mick uses onstage, then have cheaper affordable ones. That would be a good idea, but I guess its all up to Ibanez huh? lol

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

I saw them last night live with Shadows Fall (best gig I've been to).

Mick had a neck thru RG in red (or 2 can't remember) with EMGs (neck and bridge) what looked like an Ebony fretboard, floyd rose, one volume, 3 way?, reverse headstock and the "SEVEN" inlay. He also came out later with a silver S series with the same spec as above but also with white binding.

Jim had a multitude of Charvels, 2 of which looked like strats (same bridge and everything) with maple fretboards, EMGs, smaller strat headstocks. He also had a few with pointy charvel hadstocks.

Just thought you guys would like to know.
