Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

Spotted this in a live video from Big Day Out posted on urbanchaosvideos.com, he's playing a red (possibly burst?) neckthrough Ibanez with a reverse headstock, looks sweet

6-string, definitely a locking trem bridge, hardware is black and there's no close-ups so it's hard to tell if it's an Edge, Lo-Pro, or Edge-Pro or whatever. Has EMG pickups (H-H, with pickup rings), definitely not burst afterall, painted neck, rosewood or ebony (can't tell) fretboard, matching headstock, and what looks like his usual "HATE" inlays at frets 1-4.

He used Ibanez when I last saw the live, you got all the specs right, and I think its an ebony board. Also at least one of his guitars has white binding

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

According to Ibanez.com he now uses custom RGT2020's.
He has another one that's black with a normal head.

And the inlays says "SEVEN", not "HATE" as on the bc riches.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

Mick HATES 7 strings from what I believe, and hardly ever uses them. He was in Total Guitar a while back doing an interview with Kerry King. TG asked if they played 7-string and Mick basically replied "No, he used them years ago when they were more popular with Jazz guitarists, but then he stopped". He said he hates kids coming up to him saying "I wanna play 7 string". He said that "they should learn how to play 6 string first, not be a idiot and go straight to a 7 just because Korn or Bizkit do it!" He said that he never plays them anymore, and that he would rather play a downtuned 6 with beefier strings.

Mick has his 2 black main guitars that he uses, and he also has 2 or 3 plain red ones too. He only uses black or red guitars - he uses nothing else. His guitars are only stocked with Edge Pro bridges, he only uses EMG pickups in a H-H formation and they are all neckthru I believe also.

I am a huge fan of Micks, and I cant wait for the Ibanez signature model. I think the sooner they sell it the better. I think it may fill that "void" that I am after that Ibanez doesnt have at the moment.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

I am afraid that if Ibanez release Mick's signature, it will by something low end. Like MMM or NDM. But maybe it doesn't matter cause Ibanez plan to move all production to korea.

Yeah, IMHO korean Ibanezes are good guitars, only thing I don't like is the edge pro II.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

And this guitar looks like it has a Lo-Pro on it, definitely doesn't look like and Edge Pro. And I think it's got black binding on everything (neck, headstock and body).

I'd love to see a signature model guitar from him, as long as it's got EMGs (not EMG-HZ) and it's a neck-through I'd be happy.

Seems to be his "signature" Ibanez models all have:

neck-through
reverse headstock
matching headstock
full binding
painted neck
EMGs (H-H, pickup ring mounted)
Edge Pro/Lo-Pro??
1 volume and blade pickup selector
Ebony fretboard
"SEVEN" inlay

Your not the only one! This is the guitar I am waiting for! I agree with TwoHands though, I just hope they release an "accurate" sig model. With all the proper features. Not do what BC Rich did and release a model with EMG-HZ pickups and crap hardware! Its gotta be the real deal. I dont think there is any question that it will be released. Ibanez are stupid if they dont release it, the sales of the BC Rich models speak for themselves, and theres defenitely a market out there for them! I know I would buy one, in both colours probably too!

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

they have to put some 81s in there... IMO hz are a waste.... i tried to like them, honestly.

anyways, are those spec of what his custom shop models are? or are they planning a sig model for him?

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

No, thats for his custom shop models. I am almost 100% sure that a sig model will be arriving within the next year. I am pretty confident about that. Whether or not the models will be the same spec as his customs......is anyones guess. I hope they will be.

Re: Mick from Slipknot + new Ibanez

Ibanez is usually pretty good about working with the artist on the signature models, so Mick would approve any specs they put to it. The MMM guitars are made in korea because Mike Mushok wanted to keep the prices reasonable for his fans. And the guitars kick ass.
