More newbie RG questions

I have a couple more stupid questions for ya! I'm getting an RG350DX.

I've heard when you change out the strings, you should let them stretch out for like two or three days, before you clamp the locking nut and use the whammy.....When you by a new one, even though it comes set up, should I let the strings stretch before getting Vai-olent with the trem or can I play around with it right out of the box?

and Do you have any tips for a new commer to the edge (floating) bridges?

Re: More newbie RG questions

I would just give it a little play to get it in tune (It should be close out of the box)

Then lock everything (Again, should already be locked usually), abuse it.

If it goes out, stretch the strigns a bit. You aren't really improving anything by leaving it for 3 days. Its not something you'd do every string change for example, so why would it apply to a new guitar?

Well, I don't mean I wouldn't play the guitar for three days....I would go insane, if I didn't play it for days. I just ment, should I keep off the whammy when I first get it?

No just grab the strings and give them a good tug away from the guitar over the 12th fret a couple of times. do all the strings indivdually, tune it and do it again untill it doesn't go too much out when you stretch them

Exactly. Leaving the strings on but under tension isn't going to stretch them out, and if you 'play them in' then by the time they're stretched enough to lock down, they have a lot less life in em.

Stretch em with your hands and lock it down. Once you get the hang of how and how much to stretch each string, you can usually end up in perfect tuning after extreme whammy abuse, within an hour or two's play.

Re: More newbie RG questions

I've been playin' with a couple Ibanez guitars with floating bridges and I've noticed that there is a sort of 'delay' when I do a hiccup with the bar.(I don't know if that's the technical term for the effect) like at the end of Building the Church by Vai...To me it feels like you hit the bar and like a second later the note dips, unlike a standard trem. Is this true or am I just 'feeling' the floating part of the trem?

Re: More newbie RG questions

i don' know about edge-3 on the RG 350 Dx, but all my brand new RG with edge/ lo pro edge/ edge pro, once it comes out from the box, set up the intonation and whatsoever.. there you go. you can go vai-olent with that.

and off course, after a while, you need to adjust the tremolo a little bit more, to get the perfect ' back in-tunes' . but not necessary wait for 2-3 days.
