My 442R Cherry Sunburst has arrived!

Does it get any sweeter than this?

Click either thumbnail to go to a gallery of photos i just shot (sorry guys, no couch in the shot).

I was going to open an eBay case on this yesterday, but the delivery notice arrived with the mail. It's taken six weeks to get this delivered. I paid US$45 for shipping, and the guy sent it USPS Ground and pocketed $15.

At any rate, it arrived well padded (with balled-up newspapers, mind you) in a really nice carpeted hard case with a dense foam liner. Pretty nice case... i've never seen one like it. It doesn't have any interior compartments, though.

The guitar is SO sweet. A solid 9/9.5 out of 10. Just some light, light (barely noticeable) pick haze on the front, zero belt-buckle rash on the back, and only minor fret wear and some tiny nicks on the back edge of the headstock. All the hardware is pretty clean. It looks barely played for a guitar that's 10+ years old.

This one's definitely a keeper. The 442R is only listed in the 1992 catalog, but Cherry Sunburst isn't listed as an available colour, so it's a bit of an oddball, but i've seen a couple of these in Cherry Sunburst. This one has a '91 serial number on the headstock, too.

I'm tempted to swap out the hardware for chrome, but part of me says just to leave it stock and preserve it.

awesome! it looks like the Andy Timmons prototype he used here a few days ago.
I'm glad it arrived well. It must have been terrible for you to wait so long.

Enjoy!!!

Thanks, Caprile!

Hey, does anybody know if the TZ trem takes a regular Edge trem bar? This guitar didn't come with a bar or wrenches or anything.

It has a plastic collar at the top of the bar socket with an adjustment nut at the rear of the bridge behind the bar socket for adjusting the bar tension, which is a cool feature. Nice bridge... but it may get blocked.

I still think a Fender Deluxe Locking Tremolo (essentially like one of the original Floyds with no fine tuners) and some chrome dome knobs and chrome Magnum Locks would look sweet on this guitar. Must... resist... urge... to spend... more money...

the TZ trem doesn't take a Edge whammy bar. You'll need a screw-in bar like the Strat's, but the Strat bar is a little too short and will end up hitting the saddles if you screw it too far in.

Isnt the fender deluxe locking trem a REAL floyd product? I know fender owns floyd now, but its not a FENDER brand name product now is it??

As far as i can tell, it's branded as a Fender product. It isn't listed in the Floyd Rose section of the Fender site.

Hm... anybody know where i might be able to get a genuine TZ trem bar? Rich?

Will a standard aftermarket Fender-style bar have the correct thread pattern to match the TZ?

Thanks for any info. I'm asking more out of curiosity than anything... i'm not 100% certain, but i think i'm going to block the trem. I've become so accustomed to having a fixed bridge that it annoys me to bend a string while droning on some open strings and hear the others go flat.

I have a TZ bridge on my used RT650 and the bar that came with it looks like an after-market Strat bar (with the white tip), so I guess any after-market bar will fit. I haven't tried a stock Strat bar though since my Strat is half a world away at my parents' house.

I'm looking to the block the bridge too since I have several Floyd-equiped guitars but no hardtails.

She sounds great, very "Stratty". The alder body, maple neck and fretboard and S2/S3/V6 pickup combo make for a very snappy, bright sound. Very different from what i'm used to. I've never had a guitar with a maple board, and haven't had one guitar with single-coil pickups since 1985 or so.

It's kinda funny... this is a bit of a return to my roots in a lot of ways. My first "real" guitar was a 1984 Ibanez Roadstar II (RS-440). It was nice, but i never got decent tone out of it (not that i knew what decent tone was back then), so i sold it to a friend.

This guitar won't be my main player, but it's a fantastic guitar that's hard to put down. It'll be a great new colour in my palette, for sure.

Darren, congratulations!

You just picked up one of the most amazing guitars ever. I have a transparent red 442R which has served as my number one guitar for nearly ten years. I saw it in the store on a Saturday, played it, and came back with the cash to pick it up on Monday! I have used it as a studio guitar and a live guitar. Absolutely incredible, I found. I never even took out teh stock pickups. It handled every style of music which utilises electric guitars. The only reason it's not my number one anymore is because I'm experimenting with a bunch of different guitars at the moment. And (ahem) I discovered Steinbergers...

The locking tuners are great, and you may be better off blocking the bridge. The tuning on mine is rock-solid, perfect for live use. But if you still want a bar, it's a screw-in type.
