My 91 RG570 story

I purchased an RG570 in 1991 brand new when I jsut found out what credit was (paid almost $1000 for it) and before I knew what kepping a guitar in good condition was. Well 14 years later I'm much more wiser, however my RG still sounds great. I even attempt to refinish it myself last year. I'm doing some mods to it. The black hardware is worn. I have a pickup question. Are the stock '91 RG V7 & V8 Hums? The pictures I see of early RG's now show the V7 & V8 pickups. My guitar is Japan made and for what I paid for it, I'd expect top of the line hardware. Here are some pics of it.

This is the refinished and the pickgaurd/cover I ordered that are not in yet.

Be sure to tell the pickguard company that your RG770 is rear routed and that it has the original style volume knob location.

By comparing the photos of your guitar and the pickguard sample, notice that the pickguard has the vol knob positioned as on newer Jems and RGs.

If the pickups aren't marked V8 and V7 they could be V6s, which are a bit more PAF Pro-y to my ears. But I dunno if they used them in 570s or not.

Re: My 91 RG570 story

Thanks ScreamJem - Well considering I bought it off of E-Bay, it's already on the way. That's what I get for buying too fast. I never knew of a different know location. Looks like it about 1/2 inch more towards the bridge - why did they make that change?? Oh well, I guess I'll have to drill another hole, and deal with the imperfection. Will the other holes (Tone, pickup selector switch) match?

Re: My 91 RG570 story

Hard to tell on the pickup selector. Most rear routes using pickguards require cutting an oblong hole that basicly removes all of the material between the 2 switch mounting screws. The holes for the vol & tone knobs are also enlarged to allow the guard to slip over the shaft nut and washer.

Here are a couple of links to pics that detail a rear routed guard:

It's kinda hard to see in the 2nd pic, but the dark circle around the shaft of the vol pot nut is where the guard is cut out.

* If I were you, I'd resell the guard here and order a new one, cut to fit your guitar properly, from EKG at the banner ad listed above. Eddie will take care of you! *
