My latest veneer/conversion project
The 470 conversion is nearly done and the 550 conversion is closing in, so I started another. This one will be a keeper. An RG570 with and ash veneer and a
JEM conversion
. The handle is roughed out right now. I've converted the rear cutout contour and filled in/drilled the new output jack. I won't be doing the claw on this. To be honest, I don't really care for the claw that much.
I really love this veneer. The difference in colors and the flame is great.

What color are you going to do the stain in?

Re: My latest veneer/conversion project
Well, I don't know. I'm about 80% towards a natural finish. Part of me thinks to do it in a natural with a smoke burst arount the edge. I'm also thinking of doing a white body with a white stain. That would probably impart a bit more of the JEM heritage to it.

White stain sounds kinda silly though.

It's not so bad. My daughters furniture is all done in it and it actually looks pretty good. Most likely though I'll be going with natural. Mostly because I think it will really show off the flame.

I would go with white also. Recently, I saw a
flame maple
in white and it was killer. I dont see as many as them too.

Re: My latest veneer/conversion project
White is cool. Fender had one, with gold hardware, and it looked beautiful. If you don't go white, I'd still stay toward the light side of things, so as to not mute the grain. Always seems to be harder to see the grain details on darker stained guitars.

Re: My latest veneer/conversion project
Cool veneer. I don't like the
monkey grip
, but I have always had a problem with it when someone tries to turn an RG into a JEM. I actually prefer the large grip as found on the RB and such anyway.

Nice job. How thick is the veneer? Where did you get it, and was it hard to do?

Re: My latest veneer/conversion project
I like these colors, but maybe a little more white. The more white you go, the more of a pearl effect.

Re: My latest veneer/conversion project
the blueish color of a JPM90th would be killer on that top.
