My Punishing RG Theme Project.......

Well I have refin'ed several Ibbys at this point, but I had really yet to do one that was somewhat unique to me. First let me start by giving a shout out to a couple of fellow Jemsiters that helped with some input on this project. As the title suggests I went after a Punisher Theme.

Thanks to Alaskabat for his mockup ideas, even though I choose to go a different route, he jumped right in to try and help as he does so often here!

Thanks to Axel_F for taking my ideas and getting them into photoshop and figuring out how to make it usable! This guy is a wiz at it and I can't express how much I appreciate the time he dedicated to this.

Now on to one of my favorite projects yet. This started out as a mild mannered RG520 with the matte Iron Pewter finish in basswood. I thought I had more pics of the beginning of this but I can't seem to find them. Nothing anyone hasn't seen before, just alot of sanding, and priming.

Then I took the file for the graphic to a local shop and had them make it with the same material they make the vehicle wraps with. I got a graphic for the body and for the headstock. Here is said graphic.



The next step was to go to automotive paint store and have them color match the deep blood red in the graphic. The paint I got has some pearl in it as well, so its really hot in person. Didn't show up to well in the photos however.

Now I made a template from the guitar body so I could make sure I get the placement of the graphic correct.





Then it was on to shooting the base color and a few coats of clear.

Now its on to mounting the graphic, sorry I forgot to take process photos of this, just kind of before and after.





Then it went back to the garage, I had to shoot a little more color to make sure the edges blended and I fixed a few little nicks I made with the exacto knife when I mounted the graphic. Then a full can of clear for the top and top edges, then another can of clear for the entire body. Then the waiting for the clear to cure enough to sand and polish. Finally get to start putting her together.

She is loaded with a set of dimarzio Dactivators that I direct mounted. The last touches I have to order. Im either getting white plastic humbucker covers and will apply the portion of the graphic I cut out for the pickup holes to the top, or I will just go with with white pickups. I also will be ordering what I want for fret marker overlays. In the end it should turn out like this final mockup that Axel did for me on photoshop.





I am super stoked with how everything turned out so far. I had to post for all of those that love projects as much as I do.

Badass! Thanks for the kind words here, too. It's a very unique idea and was a lot of fun to work on. Gave me some great ideas too, hopefully I can finish what I've got going now in time to spray it's cousin before the humidity comes back.

what is the name of the graphics shop i want to make one with a different graphic?
