My RGT42 for a Peavey 5150 + Line6 Pedal board. This worth it ?

I just got off the phone with some one who offered his 5150 and a line6 pedal board for my RGT42dx. The guitar is loaded with evo's and other than that is just a standard RGT42.

We went over the details and i am gonna go try it tomorrow and bring my multi meter. What are some things i should check for ? If it checks out, will this be worth it ? I just got rid of my 5150III, and i know they don't compare, but i've been missing the higher gain in contrast to my actual JSX. Anyways thanks !

Depends if it sounds good to you

Check the bay to see what the financial values are on the second hand market and if you're not taking a big hit, and it sounds good, make the trade, if it doesn't sound good or you're losing a lot of money, don't do it.

In Australia, the 5150 was worth more than double the RGT42 series back in the day. The current equivalent, the 6505 is roughly double the price of a current RGT42 series too. Add on a pedal board, and dollar for dollar, the deal sounds good to me.

Personally, I would have already done the trade, but I love the tone from the 5150's.

But, it doesn't matter if I think it's a good deal. You are the one who has to live with the decision.

Rock on!

...I would definitely take the trade, I've used the 5150 and was in bands with guitarists who swore by it, I would just make sure that it is the "Signature" 5150 not the "EVH" block letter model...

Signature or block letter ? I thought there was just the 5150... 5150 II and then the 6505 revival.

I think il do it as il be able to sell the amp for more than i was getting for the guitar anyways. The guitar on the used market can easily fetch 450$, but that it's. I think the amp is worth an easy 750$ with the pedal board ? well who knows. But it's a good high quality tube amp - and yeah lots of metal bands seem to be using it. If not , i think my luthier may want one again so he might trade for one of his guitars and he makes really nice stuff. Neck through, exotic woods and nice finishes.

Anyways thank you for the replies guys!

FIRST RUN OF 5150's BLOCK LETTER(SUBPAR)

SECOND RUN OF 5150's SIGNATURE(AMAZING AMP)

Wait, I'm confused, you had the latest 5150 amp (the one Fender's making) and you got rid of it? I think the offer sounds more than good on paper. Hopefully the amp looks in good condition. Post pics if the deal goes through.

Wait so if i end up getting there and it's the block one ( cause he says it's the first edition, so i don't know how literally he means it) , will it still be a good deal considering my guitar is worth less by comparison. For example another member on here is selling his trans red rgt42dxfm for the same price also loaded with dimarzios and hasn't sold it yet, and i had very few bites - and i think 450 is a good deal for something i paid waay more for. Besides the others rgt's are like 650 used and have no dimarzio's. Just the ****ty old inf1 and inf2

...Your 5150II that you just sold is better than the block letter 5150, but why don't you find out which one it is, have him send you a pic of it...

Strange, I've always heard the exact opposite. The block letter ones are also much rarer and go for a lot more on evilbay.

Not that I'm saying that makes it a better amp, but it does make it a better deal.

Well i know it was awesome, but i got a Jem for it and i was much more comfterble with my JSX than i was with the 5150III. It gets a lot of nice tones, but my JSX could get a very good if not exact EVH tone, so therefore there was no point keeping it. Also it seemed like sacrilege to want to put el34's in my 5150 III so i got something more useful. I'm getting the frets filed and leveled today so then that way i won't have to worry about it. I wasn't able to unlock the studs so i basically gave in. My luthier will set it up nice and then il just have to maintain it .

Anyways, i will let you know what it is. Either way, i shall have to try it. But if the block letter is rare, than i take it that this one will be the signature. In Quebec there are only 3 Peavey Dealers. One of them only has transtube series and cheap stuff, one of them is far out in the province and the other is steve's where they have everything. So since block letters were early 90's, they would be hard to find around here. So there's a bigger chance of it being a signature head. All he said is that it's not the 5150 II. It's the 120 watt head

...I've played both and trust me the black letter has a fake tinny Marshall tone with no low-end to it...

Re: My RGT42 for a Peavey 5150 + Line6 Pedal board. This worth it ?

Well i guess il make it easy for you to guess which way i went with this hehe .

It's the signature series, and although i only played it through two 10's, it sounds f'ing great. I know some people don't like it in it's un-modded self, but i seriously don't see what's wrong. Then again, i am looking at this from the point of view of someone with another amp. If i could have one amp, than this would not do it for me. Granted the lead channel is great and the rhythm crunch is actually usable, the clean is so so and the amp lacks useful features that my JSX has. It also does not compare to the versatility that my Fender 5153 had, but i must admit it's still impressive and a heavy metal amp at heart.

She is up for sale. I made profit today, but if i can get a good offer for it than i'd be nice. Trade or sale. There's a guy in winnipeg, selling a Legacy. Now that i want. I've effectively traded most of my old un-used gear into equal or higher valued gear that i will use. The internet is amazing when you learn about local trading. Good thing Montreal is a musical haven!

Enjoy the pictures. I hope i can keep her for a while, but i am worried about losing the chance to get the legacy. We don't have a lot of Carvin in Canada and at this rate, i could get the amp without ever having spent a dollar. I bought my RGT last year for 450$ with two evo's later on. I'd be cool if all that money went straight to the legacy.

Anyways thanks for the advice guys!

here are the pictures

You're not kidding that Montreal is a musical town! I've been on Craigslist and Kijiji for Montreal, and there is a lot of nice gear for sale. You'd better get your fill of it before you come to Regina for RCMP training. The musical gear market is pretty desolate here.
