NGD - 1989 540S

Oops, I did it again :

1989 Desert Yellow 540S-HH. Not sure whether the coil tap is original (I can't find a 1989 catalogue in the archive) but the 1988 model was shown with 2 switches and the 1990 with none, so...

Re: NGD - 1989 540S

OHSC was a nice bonus. Neck is straight and in good nick, with plenty of life left in the frets. Finish crack on the neck pocket was to be expected. Ding on the lower edge was to be expected for a 20 year old guitar but everything else is in great condition.

It must have spent a lot of time in the case as the original paintwork under the neck plate shows that the rest of the body has only slightly mellowed. Next to my 2009 RG350, the difference in the yellows is even more obvious than the photo shows - the new yellow is much warmer and less neon.

Time for a complete stripdown, cleanup (fretboard is pretty gunked up) and setup (bridge is crazy high, given that the neck is straight).

Don't worry, I just meant I'm going to take it apart to clean it up.

Although the thought did cross my mind...

Congratulations Dude !!! one I'd love to own !

you can see an identical here :

in black, but the same config

I suppose that the selector is a 3-way, right ?

Cool, thanks for that link - that confirms what I thought having had a look at how neat things were in the control cavity. The switch is 3-way, yes, so I guess that's why they gave them a coiltap.

I just need to keep looking for a natural finish 540SLTD now (and try to resist the baby blue Gambale that's on UK 'Bay at the moment...)

Re: NGD - 1989 540S

it's not a "Gambale", but a '87 540S

eeeer... would you have to say "Gamblable" ?

You sure? I bow to your knowledge but item 220494636947 looks a lot like the FGM100SB on this pic : http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/198/6.jpg

Re: NGD - 1989 540S

my bad ! '87 have only switches, not a selector !

i've seen (too much quickly) this one :
110443629632

that is in the US, and, definitively not a Gambale endorsed !

you're right for yours : the matching shark-inlays -> a Gambale model

Great find and what old Ibanez would be complete without a neck joint crack.

Damn, that's awesome! I even like the fact that the yellow is a bit faded
