NGD Ibanez RG ???

I picked this up at a local pawn shop. I think it might have originally been an RG 550 but I'm not sure if the neck is original or if any of the other parts are original.

Looks like an edge trem.

To the right of the Ibanez logo on the headstock you can see that it says "EX series" or something like that, but you can only see it in the right light.

neck seems to be in pretty great shape. The body not so much, but this thing sounds great! For $89 I couldn't say no.

I'm probably going to take everything off and refinish the entire body next week. Might even do a green/black swirl.

Can anyone tell me anything about this guitar that I don't already know?

Here are some pics

Sorry for huge pics, and also I think the guitar might be an EX series guitar... I had never heard of that until I googled ex series.

Definitely EX series. Possibly an EX350.

You mean that's all you think it's worth?

It's got an original edge. That alone should be worth more than $89

Hmm, well I honestly had no idea what it was and that's why I came here.

When I showed it to my neighbor he thought it was an RG of some kind with an original edge.

Whatever it is, I think it was a great deal for $89. If nothing else it will give me something to do for awhile.

Don't get me wrong, definitely a good score for $89. It's all in how it plays, feels, and sounds to you. A little TLC, and you'll have a nice guitar there.

Re: NGD Ibanez RG ???

Nothing wrong with the old EX's. But a quick search of the forum will educate you to the pros and cons of the dreaded Lo-TRS trems. Still, that's a good project starter, and you can't kick about the price. Keep us posted!

Re: NGD Ibanez RG ???

Well I've never owned a high end guitar. I've played high end guitars at shops, Gibsons, MIA Fenders, A couple RG's and my buddies JS1000.

This EX feels a heck of a lot better than a lot of those expensive Gibson guitars I've played. The necks on a lot of those just feel awful.

I've owned a bunch of different low end guitars of various brands that I'm always trading with local people over craigslist. The only thing I've ever owned to compare to a "nice" guitar is my Ibanez Radius, that I will never sell. This one is better than most of the low end guitars I come across.

Thanks for telling me what it is.

Re: NGD Ibanez RG ???

hi, that's not an original Edge, it's a Lo-TRS. Well for 89 bucks I think it was worth it. I'd personnally try to clean her up, change some worn hardware and you might have a pretty decent guitar.

Regards,
Nelson
