Well I just got this one in today. I had a deal in place for this one for quite awh

This is an 87' and it's in really good shape. The fretboard has lots of play wear....just the lacquer. I myself really like that. The frets are in great shape though. There's one really minor finish cranck on the treble side of the neck pocket.....you can't feel it when you run your finger over it. One interesting thing about this one is the fact that the trem arm is a collared one......yet it's an Edge trem. A friend of mine has an Ibby from way back in the day that has the same thing.



The above pic shows the only significant finish flaws........not too bad for an 87'....made in March of 87' too......pretty damn early in the run.

I saw your commets on the closed thread and have to speak up on this one. You’re Crazy! My RG Road Rage Red 20th plays and sounds superb! I would even say its plays better than ANY new Jem currently on the market for this type of sound. That sound I would attribute that the maple neck. The J Team did an awesome job making the neck along with the rest of the guitar. They put extra care in making this guitar and it shows. Do a search for Paul Gilbert on youtube and u can see him play one. Smoking!!!
I don’t want to hear someone telling me I don’t know what I am talking about either when I do own both types. I own a Jem 20th and 1990 Jem FP and they don’t even own an RG. RG are Ibanez bread and butter guitars.

PS I have decided to name my RG 20th Chandler. I normaly name my guitars girls names I think this is fitting. I named it Chandler because of the child abuse death of Chandler Grafner http://www.rockymountainnews.com/new...churning-case/
He was full of fire,energy and life till his death I want his name to be remembered and NEVER forgotten. Every child has the right to play and EAT being happy in their life. His death showed that there is a flaw in the child protective system and is being fixed. RIP Chandler!!

Well, while I totally agree with your sentiments about child abuse......having 3 children myself. I stand by my original opinion(s) pertaining to the 550 reissues. I might be crazy...but not bcause I've felt/heard the obvious differences between the 550 reissues and the originals. While the reissues ARE WELL BUILT GUITARS, they're just not the same as the old school ones........IMO. The necks feel much different to me, and the pickups just don't have those sweet harmonics and grind that the stock ones in the older ones do.

Whether the reissues are indeed better than any of the new Jems on the market is for me, only a matter of speculation, as I haven't had the opportunity to play one. My opinion only pertains to the comparisons between them and the originals that they were designed to replicate.

Let’s try something and I think it would be fun at the same time. Let’s see if there is a difference between them. We compare them somehow and see if Ibanez did their workmanship?

This is my first maple neck guitar. I just love the heck out of my RG 20th and has a great George Lynch and Michael Wilton type of sound.

I can see why some players love fenders which alot of them have maple necks. I have tried and tried to get this sound and only this guitar has this sound. Uberthrall if you look at the Michael Wilton ESP guitars there might be a hint why there is a difference. Of the two guitars, the higher top guitar has a Birdseye Maple Fingerboard as the cheeper guitar has a basic Maple neck. While this is great for me is bad for the RG 20th because it was not made to specs then. I almost sure my RG has the Birdseye maple because it has that look. I dont know how they make it or what the difference is but maybe someone else knows?
