You're so right Jacob K! While waiting, I'm always rediscovering my guitars. Funny how Gas makes me go in one way and in the opposite direction.

(but this is killing me to know there may be australian stores who sell some at cheap prices.

Dude, this was 20 years ago. He would have to be REALLY REALLY REALLY lucky.

However, they were made for 1½ years or so. There has to be a lot lying around. It's all about finding them, and that is really hard. Someone could have bought one cheap to start playing guitar, put it away, and never given it a thought again. But concider yourself lucky that you have the internet at your service

love the 540 Powers, I even kitbashed one once using a white PII body and an orginial PGM300 neck and white Dimarzio's. It rocked. I'll have to dig a pic of that out sometime and stick it up with my 540P DY on myspace.com/startoys

AT LAST!!!! Yesterday I've received my 540PII-SHBK already nicknamed: "Batgirl".
You know (d'you know?) I dig colors.
This one is black but the shape is so beautiful that black suits it very well.

Awesome! Congrats! If Ibanez does reissue this model, I might have to break down, go into debt and try to get one from Rich. It would be the first time I would be willing to do this for a new guitar.

I love the wide neck on mine. The wide string spacing helps cover some of my sloppy playing.

Yes I was a little bit lost at first feeling like a newbie-dick playing some senior guitar, but on rehearse, where everything goes wilder I've played those fast skipping ala Paulo licks with no impediment.

I've also noticed the top lock is black while the hardware is cosmo. As the nut is 45mm, I guess it hasn't been replaced.
So the question is: are the top locks all black on 540PII? or is there another IBZ guitar that sports 45mm nut?

Otherwise, I'd love to make it look more bat-esque and yesterday I thought : what about a bat-sign knob? I've googled for hours with no success. Any ideas?

Damn, congrats man. It is also appears to be in a great shape. I'm curious, how much did you have to let go?

I'm kind of jealous that you got an SH version, those are sweet. Maybe if a yellow SH comes by one day I'll grab it, else I've been passing on the other 540P-II's that I've seen come up, except for a red HH one that got sold to somebody else.

Anyway, it's a good guitar. The acoustic sound is not impressive (at least not on mine), but even with stock humbuckers it has a pretty decent lead sound. Can't wait to see what happens when I throw in EMG's and get it even more properly set up.

Sidenote: Do you happen to know how the switch works?

The acoustic tone is not impressive on mine either. (the same on most of my basswood guitars -) but I knew when I bought it it won't sound like a Les Paul

But as you just said it, it's a good guitar. And I believe there's something better in its manufacturing, some-I don't know what-thing makes it feel stronger than my old RG550s. I have the same feeling with my PGM100 and the RG7XX I had the chance to play.
I any case, I was dying for a SH.. and I love the stock pups. I've plugged it in a Cornford yesterday and hell, this piece of "wooden crates" sounded HUGE. I've yet to plug in my VOX AC30.
The funny part is I don't play metal at all... But I always liked the stratty sounds on RGs better than on actual strats! (though I love my strat) there's much more dirt in them!

As far as I know, it was the only Ibanez with the 45mm nut. Nuno interviewed Rich Lasner and he said that they had Gotoh make the 45mm nuts in small quantities for this guitar.

As for the color of the nut, I can't answer that as I never had an original ibanez nut for mine. I had to modify a Floyd Rose R5 nut. Nuno is an expert on these guitars, and he would probably know the answer to this question.
