Nice score: 1988 PRO540R

Here are some shots of my latest 540R grab. 1987 (oops on the thread title) serial number 540R in some cream color. The color is a little metalic so when light hits is certain ways it looks white. This freaked me out for a bit at first because when playing, all of a sudden you'd see an edge shining in white and think that it was a spot that had been worn down through the paint. When the light hits the front just so, it looks like a white burst. Feels great on as well. I had a redburst Pro540R a few months back that just sat wrong on me. Dumped it quick. This one, though, sits just right. I changed the wiring to Dan Armstrong's Super Strat wiring and put a push/pull pot in for the Tone control that toggles the humbucker between parallel and series wiring. Parallel is the down switch position to better match the output of the "single coils." There are several dings and fisheyes but I'll live with them utill I find a better condition and better feeling PRO540R in the same color.

Ah, the neverending quest for the perfect radius Maybe I was just lucky, but my R's (and the js) seemed to fit perfectly since the first time I touched them.

Super nice axe. Congrats! I've never seen an R with that color before. Is it 'real' cream or a very nicely faded white?

It's probably a Pearl White or similar. It's not faded white I don't think because the color is uniform all over and in the cavities as well. Maybe not Pearl White either, though, as if looks light yellow when no lights are reflecting off of it. I'll have to look at some old catalogs from around that time to see if something like it was listed.

Are your 540s the body style like this one or the sleeker shape from '88, or the not as sleek shape from the '90s?

Re: Nice score: 1988 PRO540R

The funny thing is that the bodies of my '88 and the '93 are almost identical. The '93 has a slightly more pronounced lower curve, but I think this is due to the hand sanding.
They both have the sleek bodies. Compared to your '87, they have a deeper cutaway that ends a few mm behind the 22nd fret.
