Most of the lawsuit model instruments are pretty good, and some are simply outstanding. I would try before buying one of the '75-'76 or earlier guitars (most of these won't have serial numbers), as they tend to be a little less well made than the late 70's instruments, and are getting old now. There are certainly gems there, just play first so you know. The '77 onward guitars are all good, with the '78-'82 guitars among the best Ibanez has ever made ("As well made as we could possibly make them"
Jim Donahue said). The hollow bodies are especially good values from this era. My main guitar is a '78 Ibanez FA-100 (ES-175 copy), and it will see its next owner when my will is read
