Old Ibanez Guitars?? Are they good?

I have just recently become addicted to Ibanez. I own quite a few newer models. I was wondering if you guys knew anything about the old 70's guitars they made. The "lawsuit models". It seems there are alot for sale, and they look really nice. like the les paul and sg. Locally, a guy has a Rickenbacker Ibanez copy bass for sale. It looks awesome. Are they any good? does anyone have any input on them. They look good and are very affordable. I was hoping to get some feedback on these from you guys who have been around Ibanez for a few years. thanks

My first electric guitar teacher, about 20 years ago, had an Ibanez roadstar and I remember it sounded very impressive.

Be sure not to get ripped off on the old models, pawn shop and some guitar store pricers are idiots and theyll put an LNG up for $200 and an 80's copy for $3000. Alot of them go on E bay here for about $500 US. The're great guitars tho, the atraction was that they looked the same but perfomed alot better.

The old acoustics are amazing too, we own an early 70's 12 string and it still sounds and plays better than any other acoustic ive ever used, its always been tuned to standard and the neck shows no sings of warping like 99% of 12 bungers do.

Most of the lawsuit model instruments are pretty good, and some are simply outstanding. I would try before buying one of the '75-'76 or earlier guitars (most of these won't have serial numbers), as they tend to be a little less well made than the late 70's instruments, and are getting old now. There are certainly gems there, just play first so you know. The '77 onward guitars are all good, with the '78-'82 guitars among the best Ibanez has ever made ("As well made as we could possibly make them" Jim Donahue said). The hollow bodies are especially good values from this era. My main guitar is a '78 Ibanez FA-100 (ES-175 copy), and it will see its next owner when my will is read

Re: Old Ibanez Guitars?? Are they good?

Wow, growing up I completely snubbed Ibanez for Gibson, Dean, Charvel, Jackson and Kramer because all the 70's and early 80's guitars sucked. Seriously, I never ever found a good one. I'm addicted to the 87-up RG's now but I always thought the older stuff was pretty bad, not up to par at all with the earlier mentioned brands. Of course, I'm comparing USA customs with early Japanese guitars when Japanese guitars were what made in China and Indonesia guitar are like today.
