Re: Original Heel to Contoured Heel

Thanks for all the responses.

To be clear, I was looking to make the conversion not to the AANJ, but to the older style sculped heel (pre-AANJ).

I thought I remember seeing someone do it to a red 770DX, but I may just be going mad.

Thanks again,
D

Re: Original Heel to Contoured Heel

I probably won't wind up doing the heel work since I can't find a decent tutorial and I'm just not that good a wood working.

The guitar became a project guitar when my dog was sick and peed in the case when I left it open (with the guitar in it) to answer the door. I can't get the pee smell out of the guitar, so I've decided to strip it and refinish it. I wouldn't dare trying to sell the guitar that smelled like dog pee.

I'm going to strip the body with a heat gun and do a fabric finish. I have a buddy that works on cars and he can spray the clearcoat on for me free of charge, which is cool.

It was a knock around guitar to begin with, so I'm not really all that upset. If anything, it's giving me a chance to gut it and put all new hardware and pickups in to make it like new.

I appreciate all the advise.

nice idea, but don't forget to let the body "dry" out the smell before covering it with fabric and paint it over. let the wood breath and get rid of the smell or it would come back off within a few days

Re: Original Heel to Contoured Heel

Will do. I'm going to condition the heck out of the wood before I put on the fabric. I'm going to let it air out on the balcony for a few days after stripping before I do anything.
