Output Jack messed up?

So I have no idea what's wrong with my guitar (Ibanez RG2EX; made in Indonesia... surprise surprise with all these problems eh?)

Anyways, throughout the past month, the sound from my guitar would sometimes short. By short, I mean the sound your amp makes when a live instrument cable is touching your finger, or not fully inserted into your guitar jack. That garbling sound...

I figured that it was just a loose wire, so I unscrew the output jack (it's the plate ones, not the barrels) and solder the wires together. I swear, I didn't touch anything but the little fray of wires sticking out. After my little surgery, I plug my amp into my guitar and.....

*cricket*

No sound whatsoever.

So what I'm wondering is if it is an output jack problem or another electronic problem in the guitar? If it is an output jack problem, what would the appropriate part number be to replace it? I took it into Guitar Center, and being how Guitar Center is, they said, "We can't identify the problem unless we fully disassemble the guitar. That will be a $75 charge."

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Re: Output Jack messed up?

Maybe you attached the loose wire to the wrong lug of the output jack during the surgery?
Also make sure you didn't accidently drop a bit of solder somewhere it didn't belong to. A close up photo of the output jack with the wires attached would be helpful.

Aside from that, how does your guitar play / feel? I'm curious about indonesian quality.

Re: Output Jack messed up?

I'm pretty sure I soldered it right. I didn't even solder it that much, just a little fray that was sticking out. I need a part number though for the entire output jack so if anybody can provide me with that, that would be greatly appreciated.

Indonesian quality is actually pretty decent, at least the guitar I have. The only flaw I've had with this guitar is the said output jack. Other than that, everything is fine, including the action.

Re: Output Jack messed up?

- Check the wires inside your electronics compartment (hot and ground)
- Make sure those 2 doesnt intersect each other or else will produce the crackle
- See that your cable's tip is properly touching the hot of the jack

Most of times, if the output jack isnt working its due to the prongs breaking/not touching the tip of the cable/broken solder joint. Its just pieces of metal put together to separate the hot and ground so there shouldnt be a problem of it "not working".

Also, check your cable, it might not be your jack after all.

Well, lucky for you, you can take that cable anywhere they sell monster, and they'll give you a replacement, no questions asked.

I'm not a big fan of monster cables, but that is one good thing about them.

Re: Output Jack messed up?

I prefer cables that originally have closing-cap on the jack so that i can open to check the solder joints.
