painting trem
so i got a 1997 blueburst RGR470 (japan only)
im putting white hardware on it, knobs etc, painting the tuner nut's to be white to match, getting pearloid buttons,
truss rod cover
etc, i bought white dimarzio's.
i was wondering about input on painting a trem
im waiting on my order for a lo-pro edge to come in, and i was thinking of painting it, at least the
trem block
and the main big piece and the saddles.
plainly i wouldnt paint the knife edges or screws etc. that would be stupid.
what do you guys think? any suggestions? input?
oh btw this is my first REAL thread here. i posted in the activation thing, but no real threads.
thanks in advance guys

Re: painting trem
It would probably better to powder coat it rather than paint. It would be more durable and be less prone to chipping.

Re: painting trem
Yeah, I have heard of people painting a trem before, but there has always been a durability question. Powder coating is far more effective, and I remember a few guys on here had it done. Powder coated white I believe.

Re: painting trem
yes on powder coat and no on painting, you'll just waste your time coz later on it'll definetely chip if you knocked it to something. Not to mention the coating "could" mess your action a bit coz it raises the saddle.

Re: painting trem
Powder coating can be expensive since it require a machine to apply the coat. It doesnt use any liquid based form of material coz it uses some electrostatic or somesort. Then heated for making it strong.
Rather than wasting your cash on that, just buy a new trem preferably...

Re: painting trem
As much as I like things to match, I would just go with a chrome trem. It's not white but it's the whitest trem you can get without spending an arm and a leg on getting a trem powder coated.

Re: painting trem
Yes Chrome is much better and long lasting, powder coating will not last either and soon u will see alot of chrome spots here and there.

Re: painting trem
Actually, powder coating is very durable. I'd be willing to bet that you could have your trem powder coated for much less than the cost of a new trem.

Re: painting trem
well ive already bought a new trem. the body didnt come with one.
its just a black lo-
pro edge
. $270 through my local
ibanez dealer
.
@madpickin03
im expecting to have to deal with action changes, i thought about that already, ill be filling it down to compensate for the thickness of the paint.
@jimmyfingersminion
exactly, no white trem.
i know i can just go chrome, but i can in fact paint the other parts, (tuner washers, barrel knobs etc) by sanding, using industrial grade metal enamel by krylon, and some clearcoat. guy did it (not to the trem but the other stuff) on the sevenstring.org forums and it worked great, and he just used spraypaint and clearcoat.
i dont intend to paint every nook and cranny of the trem, just the main visible pieces + the tremblock.
also, any ideas on pricing for powdercoating? what about partial painting, cause i dont want finish down in the screw holes etc. can they do that?

Powder coating is very strong, I just don't see it wearing off easily at all. My question is will everything still fit together, I don't even think the saddles would have enough room on thier sides... Anyway I do remember seeing KoRn during thier first family values tour (I think) and munky had a
custom Ibanez
with a white trem (dunno how they did it), it looked pretty sweet, I'd powder coat if I knew the trem would go back together lol.
