Particle Board?

I decided to start a new thread since this is a different topic.

I bought two guitar bodies and a couple of people on here told me that they could be a 220 or 320 and an RG140.

I received my bodies today, but I'm kind of disappointed. They look to be made of particle board. So does that mean that they aren't Ibanez? I also wanted to use chemicals to strip off the paint. I guess that's out the window now. Or is it?

Re: Particle Board?

I doubt they are particle board -- it's too hard to use even for cheap fakes. Maybe you meant MDF? That would a little more likely. Either would mean it isn't an Ibanez. You'll have to get to some bare wood to tell. Any bare spots in the neck pocket, pup routes or trem routes? If so, post some pictures.

Re: Particle Board?

Sorry I should have included the pics. I just did a lot of sanding on the white one and it seems to be real wood. So that's good. But the blue one has got to be some kind of particle board.

Re: Particle Board?

Ibanez used a material they called Resoncast on some models, which they claimed was an MDF-like material designed to sound like basswood. I had a Resoncast RGR470DX which sounded a little flat.

Re: Particle Board?

Here's some mention of it.

My Talman is one of the alder ones.

And yeah, looking at those pics, it looks just like the 'wood' that was exposed when a falling microphone stand hit my RGR and chipped a centimetre or so of the finish clean off, base coat and all.
