Paul gilbert style replica

i wish to make a pg style replica, using his double neck as the basis

my question is, would a rg170dx be alright for this purpose, is the the basswood close to that of rg370,rg350. and do they have wizard II necks.

also what are the pickups in pg's double neck.

I don't know bout the wood quality though, my guess is that he's using a tone zone. Anyway I'm crazy for the simplicity of a single bridge pickup

+1 love single bridge and single pot for volume, does wonders for the tone

You'd be much better off using something like a RG321, RG3EX1, or RG2EX2. --Jason

Re: Paul gilbert style replica

i chose the 170dx over other models for the following reasons

1. sharktooth inlays

2. basswood body whereas the 321 has mahogany

3. i can buy one 2nd hand, in my area other models dont come up all that often

4. the price. they are half the money of the 321 new

also the 321, 3ex1 and 2ex2 are all great guitars in there own right, i dont really want to spend as much on them just to ruin them

Remember, you get what you pay for. Those guitars use cheap woods which can and most often give less than stellar tone. They use less than great bridges which give less sustain and tone.

In all honesty you would be better off saving your cash and getting a real one or a good prestige. You would not regret it and would be able to tell the difference. Just my two pesos m8.

Rock on dude.

Sorry. But -1 on single pickup with only volume. Why would you do that? Played the new RG prestige that's built like that. Left scratching slightly tilted head.

just remember that i will only be using the neck and body, from what ive heard the wood used on these are the same as on the 300 and 400 series. i own a 370dx and have owned various 400 guitars and i cant complain about the wood. plus the Australian market pgm3's are made in the same factory as most Korean models and i am quite happy with mine.

as for the bridge, i will be replacing it with a quality hardtail one after i have done the conversion.

i only plan on spending a couple of hundred dollars on this project. the part which will cost the most is the dimarzio super distortion. i have found a 170dx for $100 and i already have the paint.

Re: Paul gilbert style replica

Awesome man, I love seeing projects like these... it's cool seeing these entry level "axes" being transformed into real shredders. I'm kind of anxious to see how this turns out

Been thinking of doing a pgm build, if you're pleased with the result of this one you should get 2 more 170's and go for the double neck man

well Paul does have some cheap guitars he has picked up from diff places and he makes them somehow sound good, but I also agree with you
