I'm not sure what to do with the headstock at this point. Ideally I'd get Herc to finish the headstock in the same colours but I don't know if he's doing custom work at the moment. I may go with a Chris Woods neck with a pink Ibanez logo and possibly the aforementioned coloured tuning pegs (c'mon, what's the point of a gaudy Ibanez if you don't take it all the way?), a maple neck, and colour change LEDs - just plain dots because I don't like the look of the LEDs when they're in the middle of an inlay - it makes them look like an afterthought. But I'm still considering different options.

Re: Petie joins the Swirl Brigade

Petie, go with the coloured powder coat! I always said how powder coated hardware done in colours (other than white, which is what we've seen from Ibanez) would look spectacular! I would give the LED's a miss, though, that's utter cheese! Ewww...

Actually, they are cool as side dots, but on the front of the board it's all a bit "look at me!"-ish. Don't do it!

A maple neck would look killer! Pink logo would look sweet aswell, Looks like it's gonna be one kick a$$ guitar.

Re: Petie joins the Swirl Brigade

Well it looks like powder coating in the colours I need isn't going to happen. Oh well. In that case I think I'll go for Cosmo hardware.

Re: Petie joins the Swirl Brigade

Cosmo or black on the hardware will be be perfect. You start trying wild ideas with the hardware and it's gonna draw attention away from the swirl...

I've always dug Herc's work...the galleries on his website are really amazing.

Was that one "in stock" or did you have to wait for it?

Re: Petie joins the Swirl Brigade

It was in stock. He seems to sell a body every couple of weeks on a certain auction site.

A few weeks ago he was selling a gorgeous black/shocking pink fixed bridge RG body and I almost bought that one but I'm glad I waited and this one came along.

Re: Petie joins the Swirl Brigade

Despite my own 'nothing too Jemmy' rule, I thought about it for a few days and I just bought a neck from ...somewhere *cough* which was customised by Herc with a maple fretboard, PMC inlays and purple Ibanez logo.

Re: Petie joins the Swirl Brigade

First off, congrats! I'm also not a swirl fan, or a fan of the color pink, but that is a really sick swirl. Awesome

Secondly, I guess I would be the odd man out on this, but I think chrome hardware would look best if you can't get the powder coat colors you want. But then again, I also think a pink and green vine would be a good match on the fretboard.

Re: Petie joins the Swirl Brigade

I was just going to mention about it not being possible to powder coat the hardware in a swirl-like scheme because of the size of the parts in question and also because you can't really powder coat a swirl. Personally, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone being able to bake that many colors in a swirl fashion.

I do like the body though, I would call it a Hendrix swirl (I think I see Jimi's face right above the trem cavity).

Look forward to seeing the finished project!

Jimmy
