could just be a different plastic used in the single coil that has faded over time, where the hums didnt.

Only way to truly tell is to take em out and see what numbers are on the bottoms.

I'd bet that the middle single coil either got switched out or the cover got changed for some reason. The good news is you can easily change out the cover on the single coil to a white one cheaply enough.

the mid pickup cover tends to be a little more yellowish than the hum covers. DiMarzio uses different plastic for them. even if you pick up a brand new PGM301 in a store today, you will find the mid pickup looks a little more yellowish.
however, judging from the pic, i would say the mid pickup cover looks like the creme cover usually found on PGM500's.
