Pickups for RG321MH

I just sold a RG570 and got a RG321MH. I had enough of the floyd and I didn't really use it enough for the trouble it's worth (I have another guitar with a floyd anyway).

So I'm going to replace the pickups in the guitar. I also read that it's worth replacing the pots/wiring/etc in the guitar since what's in there isn't the best. I'm thinking about doing that too, since I don't overly like the sound of the guitar now.

Anyway, I have been looking at pickups, reading reviews, listening to sound examples, and I'm almost certain I want an Air Norton in the neck. For the bridge I'm not really sure. I've used evolution pickups before and they're not really my thing. D Activator Bridge and D Sonic look interesting. I've used a Blase before and that sounded good to me, but it seems like they don't make them anymore. EMG pickups don't really do it for me though.

The music I play is mostly heavier stuff like metal and prog rock. I also play some classic rock, blues, and jazz too though.

Any suggestions on pickups or modifications to the guitar are welcome.

Re: Pickups for RG321MH

hmmm pickup combos well if you want that metal and progressive feel how about the new
Liquifire in the neck and Crunchlab in the bridge set for a Petrucci kinda sound or if you want to go older school try a PAF PRO in the neck with Fred or a MO JO in the bridge.
Or go Air norton in the neck with a Tone Zone in the bridge i have heard that is a nice combo though I didnt like it in a guitar with a Basswood body. Is your RG321 mahogany if
it is maybe that combo will work for you? all Dimarzio pickups BTW

It does have a mahogany body. Maybe I'll look into the Tone Zone a bit more. I was looking at the new Petrucci pickups too but since they're so new I could only find limited information on them.

Re: Pickups for RG321MH

Dont try the TZ in mahogany if you have to pay for it, itll be a nice ball of mushy mudd...

Get a Steve's Special to go with the AN and you have the original Petrucci combo. The SS has scooped mids to help with that mahogany tone. The DSonic is similar to the SS but has a lil more punch and mids (not too many anyway). I had it in a mahogany/maple guitar and i loved it.

If EMGs aint your thing I wouldnt go with the D Activator, since its Dimarzio's attempt at making an 81 that doesnt use batteries

Reading reviews for Steve's Special. This sounds exactly like what I was looking for. I'm pretty sure I'll be ordering an Air Norton and a Steve's Special within a week. Clarity is one of the main things I'm looking for here.

Re: Pickups for RG321MH

Yeah, one more thing, you said you liked the Blaze (which is a 7 string pup). Well, the SS is the 6 string version, or as close as it can be. Steve from Dimarzio built it for Petrucci (who also liked the Blaze in his UV).

Re: Pickups for RG321MH

Yeah it was a 7-string that the blaze was in. I just assumed there was a 6-string version of the same name, which is pretty much what I was looking for. Explains why I can't find one for my 6-string. Thanks though, the Steve's Special was what I was looking for.
