Resale value - Yes
Versatility compared to a JS??? I don't think so... really...

The JS was designed to be the NEW version of a traditional guitar. hence marrying both old and new technologies and designs. How can an overpriced (and overrated too... but that's just me...) piece of wood like the PRS claim to be more versatile? I've played both, and to be honest, if I wanted a player's instrument, I'd go for the JS. If I wanted collector's items, I'll go for the PRS.

The PRS is a good guitar, don't get me wrong, but not worth the price. I'd take the JS anyday...

I've played both. I'd take the SE over the JS100. The JS1000 would be a different matter.

I'd say wait until you get to try both and make the decision yourself. You are the one who has to play it.

Opps... I thought he said it was the JS1000 he was considering...

If it's the 100 you have in mind, then get the PRS...

I'll go with PRS with eyes closed.

Like others say, if was JS 1000 i'll go for that, but JS 100 no.

Given the choice between the two, I'd take a used RG-550

...but if I had to say one or the other, then as a former JS100 owner, I beseech you to get the Santana SE. I've played the SE and it's strong points are good fret work and design simplicity (easy to setup/maintain). It's a good first guitar.

If you don't want a trem, then the stop tail PRS is the way to go, but in truth if you DO want a trem, I'd take the JS100 over the Santana SE.

The JS100 doesn't have a particularly good resale value, but the Santana SE is unproven in the market place as yet, and as such it's resale value is truly yet to be determined. Plus you're also more likely to find a good deal on a JS100 and in your situation, I'd seriously consider getting a used JS100 that way if you do sell it later down the line you won't lose as much.

The other thing you have to remember is which guitar hero you want to be associated with more, if either.

The other common suggestion, is that if you *do* want a whammy bar, that you should very seriously consider an RG 550 or RG520, which are available at the same RRP as a JS100 and have a higher standard of manufacture, components and hardware.

Please Help...Ibanez JS100 or PRS santana SE

Hi Thanks for ur help

I bought a Jackson and it had a fault in it and the shop is going to replace it but I thought I might take the opportunity to buy something a bit more luxurious.

I am doing Higher music in my school this year and plan to play some satriani pieces. so obviously the JS100 would be a good choice, I play loads of stuff that uses the trem but my teach told me the PRS can be set up to do some of what I do although not as extreme as a floyd type trem.

I play Ac/Dc, metallica, queen, as well as others what would be the better all round guitar?
I do like the JS100 but am yet to try the santana...I aint a big fan of Santana, Satch would kill him but would the PRS have better sustain?
I tried the JS1000 and didnt notice anythin in it that would justify payin twice as much as the JS100 but I know there are differences like Dimarzios, better trem etc..
I am studying higher music this year and plan to play some satch pieces so it would be a good guitar for that purpose, to be honest I dont care for the snobby "I own a PRS" attitude, I think PRS's are very overpriced and it seems that the Santana aint a real PRS cos they seem to not want to let their name put on it...they could at least have put their name on the headstock with a small Santana SE logo, so it would look more expensive

well thanks for your help

Douglas

Personally, neither. If PRS won't even put their name on the headstock, I would read into that a little. If you can stretch it, why don't you look for a used JS1000 or used PRS CE.

I had a JS100 and got rid of it as soon as I could. The p'up were lousy and the tremolo was awful. I have heard that some PRS SE's are ok, but the quality is inconsistent, so if you go that route, buy the guitar that you actually demo.

Good luck.

There arent many JS1000's for sale around scotland.
If I could get a second hand one i would but I think I am obligated to buyin from the shop as i have a credit note.

What about the RG range what can i get for the price of a Js100...what about the Jackson DK2 or the Phil Collen range are they any good?

What about Kramer...

I am talkin about the Kramer Striker, Kramer Barretta and the Kramer Barretta PRO from Musicyo.com

What are your views on these guitars?
I would like to know especially about the Kramer infinity sustainer guitar that sounds interesting

The RRP on a JS100 is £599 which is the same as a brand new RG 550. (hint hint)

The RG 520 with a quilted sapele top is usually the same price.

There's *about a standard 10% discount on the prices of these, so RG 550's and JS100's get advertised at about £539.

Douglas, How about a Dillion's PRS copy or a Kramer Nighthawk?
