Question about my new RG770DX
Hey there guys, i`m so happy, i just won the purple 770 on the bay yesterday. It`s like brand new. $937 is a pretty good price i think nowadays. Now i`m only missing the blue one. I already have a red one. So if anybody knows of one for sale. I`m up for it.
My question is this: How where the pickups mounted on these originally? On my red one, the pickups are mounted to the pickguard. While the purple one`s are mounted to the body. What`s up with that?
I`ll get some pics up when i get it.
Thanks,
Chris

Why would you say it ain`t minty? Did you see this guitar? I spoke with the guy yesterday and he says the top is flawless, and the back had a couple buckle marks but not to the wood. So the back to me ain`t much of a worry, it`s the top i`m conscious about. I`ll rephrase my descritption then, "The overall condition of the guitar is like new, except for a couple belt marks on the back"But if you know this guit, tell me about it, i can`t wait to get it.
Ok so on the purple there mounted to the body, but one the others there to the pickup. Are they all like that? I thought maybe one or the other where modified or something.
Thanks man, and please tell me about this guitar if know it
Chris

Re: Question about my new RG770DX
probably just a spec change. I believe body-mount is preferable in terms of sound.
Congrats on your 770! Enjoy it

Re: Question about my new RG770DX
Hey--I won the first DXVM that went out on the bay...
So the pickups on my 770DXVM are direct-mounted to the body, but the pickups on my 770DXLB are mounted to the pickguard. Weird...

God damn, nice blue one man, it`s the next on my list. How`s the purple one in person? I wasn`t sure about the color but i want all 3 of these. My favorite to look at is the blue one, it`s soooo nice.
Wanna sell it

Uh, let's see... Nope!
The VM is awesome--plays almost as nice as my LB. Thing about my LB is that it's got a sanded neck, which just makes it that much more buttery to play...
I don't know if I'll pursue the red so I can have the whole set--I just bought 3 RG 20th's, one in each color--now there's a set. WOOT!

Congrats on the 20`s, i just bought 2 also.RFR and DY. I can`t stand the black one. They should of made the white and maple board one instead, even if it weren`t the same year. I hate rosewood necks.... Well except on my UV`s....LOL
I`d pursue the red if i where you, these things play like no other, better than the newer ones...IMO Way better in fact. My PGM was no slouch b ut my 770 tops it.
Sure about not selling me your blue.........

Re: Question about my new RG770DX
They changed the way the pickups were mounted during the life of the RG770DX. In the first year, 1991, they had pickguard
mounted pickups
then for the next couple of years they had
direct mounted pickups
until they were discontinued in 1993.

Re: Question about my new RG770DX
All that i could see for the blue/red ones is they have screws on the pickguard, means they're mounted on top of it.
And i meant to say, "it was minty, isnt it?" ... didnt say it wasnt minty...
