Recommend me an Ibanez

Ok, well, I'm thinking about grabbing another guitar and I want a real 80s shred monster thing. Floyd rose, 24 frets, the whole deal. Price is not a concern at this point as I want a real beast of a guitar. I want that 80s shred sound and the slick fast neck. My influence is John Petrucci.

the classic 80s ibanez is the RG-550DY but for petrucci i would say a uv7bk or an actual petrucci signature JPM

Sounds like you need an RG5XX or an RG7XX

If price is no concern and JP is your main influence why not get an Ernie Ball JP6?

Re: Recommend me an Ibanez

Like others have said, any 5-series RG Ibanez is a great place to start.
The RG520 has no pickguard and two humbuckers.
The RG550 has a pickguard, and a hum-sing-hum p/u configuration.
The RG570 has no pickguard, and a hum-sing-hum p/u configuration.

There are also differences depending what year ... but Ibanez kept them fairly constant through the years. Some players insist on the neck-joint of the mid-90s and newer RGs. It's called the 'All-Access Neck Joint', aka AANJ. I don't really have a preference. Also, the 'EDGE' bridge has changed through the years slightly ... but again, they are ALL great. I have all three models of the Edge bridge in my arsenal of guitars, and I'm not really sure I have a preference.

Hope this helps. Once you Ibanez ... you'll never go back!

Re: Recommend me an Ibanez

I'd say a UV or other seven string.
For Petrucci I'd suggest a seven, but if you like 6s, RG5 series or a current prestige model.
Though i'd go a used 5xx series.

3. RG520QS
4. RG565 - mine's getting a repaint, fret dress, and new pickups, with cosmo black hardware on Black paint, it's gonna look nice!!! pics soon
5. RG320QTS? - the neckthough model, ya know what I mean? Not wure about that model number.

Re: Recommend me an Ibanez

If you want a new Ibanez for 80's shred style stuff and money is not a problem check out a Jem7v, a UV or pretty much any of the Prestige RG's.

The new RG3520z looks nice , as does the RGT320z. The new 24 fret MIJ S's look good too. Plenty of nice new stuff on the Ibanez website. Don't overlook the RG1570, even though it's the cheapest Prestige RG, it's still a great instrument, and even with aftermarket pickups added in to the price, it's still very cheap for the quality level.

If you want second hand, as many others have said, any 5xx or 7xx series RG will do the job no problems as will a JPM or a Jem, but they might cost a little more.

If seven strings are a requirement, a second hand UV would be my pick, but the RG1527 is a fine guitar too.

There's plenty of Ibanez guitars that fit your requirements, so play as many as you can, and go with what feels right for you.

I hope you find exactly what you are looking for. Good luck.

Rock on!

RG5xx series.

Can't go wrong with any of them. RG550 (original, AANJ version, 20th Anniversary), and RG565 are my favourites.

Re: Recommend me an Ibanez

I already have an Ernie Ball BFR JP 6. It's a mighty cool guitar, by the way.

I played my friend's JS 1200 yesterday, and that's a way cool guitar. And I've played different JEMs that are also very cool. It'll be a hard decision for sure but I really like the 7WH
