Re: Refinishing RG 550 (570?)

Indeed it is an EX series. I have one sitting right next to me. Rounded edges, smaller sharper horns and no neck pocket recess.

Re: Refinishing RG 550 (570?)

Right. And since when did they start drilling huge finishing holes in the center of neck joints on 550's? The neck will not intonate on that body. The body is made for only a 1 fret overhang, so the fretboard must be going into the neck pickup route right now. If it was a 22 fret EX, (looks like it was, but I can't tell without measuring) then you can cut the last two frets off the 550 neck.

Anyway I'm a little tired to get deeply into it, but basically those don't work together, and it's a Korean, non-5xx body.

I agree with you guys now, it's not any 5XX series body. I was so busy looking at the tremolo route, I didn't even notice the lack of the recess for the fingerboard extension. Not even close for a 5XX series. One thing's for sure. That body is a mess. --Jason

personally I'd leave it alone. The 550 is pretty much fine the way it is, but if you have too maybe just fine sand down the factory finish and paint it some kind of dark blue or something.

Exactly what I thinking. It looks like an EX body.
