Refinishing with a graphic print?

I'm considering refinishing one of my RG's, but instead of just painting it, I want to try buying a big poster size print from Allposters.com (or wherever..) and putting that on top of the body. Anyone ever tried this and have a good tutorial or advice for this? I'd imagine it's similar to doing the fabric or holograph finishes on projectguitar.com.

Thats a good idea. Im thinking about doing this on my old stealth ex project. Its a pumpkin orange right now and horrible bumps from the sand off of paint underneath. Im going to take that orange paint off and sand it down fill the neck single coil route and im saying this is the same thing as the fabric one on projectguitar. Im going to try this when I find time.

Anyone? I have no idea what kind of glue to use. Or what to do after the graphic has been glued on. I'm assuming (after I burst it and paint the rest of the body..) that I'd just start the clear coat process, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Ahh! Very nice. Did you clear it like you would a regular finish after gluing on the graphics?

Yeah, just clear. One tip: watch out for the sharp edges on the RG bodies. Easy to sand through and reveal the white print paper edge.

There was a chap who used to post here a lot, Brian Calvert and 4-5 years ago he started his own site called project guitar as kshands mentioned below.

He's got a bunch of tutorials on there so see if you can find anything there.

Also I'd advise you to just try and stick bunch of glossy magazine pages on planks of wood just testing and stuff and clear them and see if it works before you try and actual print on a guitar.

I think there's a tutorial on applying a fabric print to the surface of a guitar on projectguitar.com. I'm betting the same principle would work for paper. I'd imagine that you'd want to go with paper decent enough to print out a good graphic, but not too thick that it'll spoil your tone. Maybe photo paper with a matte or gloss finsih? Do they make that stuff big enough to cover a guitar body?

Since I airbrush and paint, I don't glue posters on guitars, but be prepared to spray a lot of Clear (without runs) to cover the thickness of poster paper on the edge. I would also spray a sealer on it first because the clear could eat the ink on the poster and you will watch it run right off the paper.
