Restored RG 550dx

After years of tinkering & experimenting, I've finally returned my RG 550dx back to it's original state.
It's not anywhere near exciting as what most of you guys post, but I though some people on here might dig this guitar...

Thanks big time to Kenny Doe for hooking me up with the original pickups for this bad boy.

I like it! Rg550 is always great no matter how "stock" it is

It's my girlfriends tattoo...The sticker in question that is.

It's kind of like being branded..

Re: Restored RG 550dx

I think they only made it for a couple o' years around 91-92 ish...although I could be a bit off.

They also made a blue one also w/ matching mirror that has always seemed to elude me.
:[

As far as the mods, here's all that had been previously done to it.

Changed from a black abalone pickguard, to a black pickguard, then to a black mirror pickguard that broke, then back to the purple mirror..

Pickups that were tried were :

Evolutions
Breeds
PAF PRO's (which were my favorite )
Fred & a PAF PRO
And a set of DiMarzio's from a yamaha Pacifica which were essentially Steve's Specials.

I don't think i have any old pics of my previous operations, but if I do I'll post em'..

Re: Restored RG 550dx

I used to have the exact the same model.
It was my first Ibanez I ever owned. I stupidly sold it though, and have regretted it ever since. Its probably the only guitar I regret selling tbh. I have owned a couple of other RG550's since then and none of them were the same.

Great guitar you have there though.

Even still, purple plus butterflies, if you played that on stage, I think some people might get the wrong idea.

Nice, but I don't know if I like that sticker. IMO, stickers don't belong on guitars.

Great! I like the butterflies as well. Makes for a good controversy, no matter what style you play. Very nice!

Re: Restored RG 550dx

I used to get a ton of crap from my much more "metal" rhythm guitarist until we played with a super heavy band called Filth Grinder with a 250lb buff biker/bad ass lookin' dude had the EXACT same guitar.

Needless to say nobody said a word to him about HIS guitar looking ***..

;]

These days I actually use it more for recording & an occasional gig with my cover band, which consists mostly of 80's tunes where purple guitars & butterflies are much more acceptable.

I usually put stickers on my stage geetars.
But only if it makes them look sleezier..

My fav is this one..
