RG 470 question

Hello all. I recently put a RG 470 BK on layaway at my local music shop. I have come find from reading here that the TRS II trems are pretty much hated. Well, needless to say, the 470 that I have in layaway has the TRS II trem. Should I not get this guitar just becaue of the trem or is there a direct fit other trem that will drop right in? My local music shop is not an Ibanez dealer and the 470 he has is used. The sound is great and the neck plays wonderfully. IMO, the only bad thing about this guitar would be the TRS II. I'm getting it for $250. Should I get something different? Thanks.

Re: RG 470 question

I replaced the TRS on my RG470 with a OFR Pro.
It can also be replaced by an Edge family bridge.

Buy it and upgrade it!

Thanks for the reply. I thought Floyd's only came in either the Floyd Rose Original and the Floyd Rose Pro. Are you referring to the Floyd Rose Pro? Are the Edge's more or less $$$ than the Floyd's? Thanks again.

Re: RG 470 question

OFR Pro = original Floyd Rose Pro
Yes, it is the Floyd Rose Pro... it's an original Floyd Rose product, hence the designation OFR.

It's cheaper than the Edge/Lo-Pro...
Anyway, ask the Rich man for prices.

You will have to do minor routing in either case...

Re: RG 470 question

Does it definitely come with a Lo-TRS II? They were only on the RG470s for a few years (94-96 from memory). Post 96 they came with LO-TRS trems which are a far better piece of hardware. 2003 saw them come with an Edge Pro.

So the short of it is you may not even need to replace the trem. If you do a low cost awesome trem is the Gotoh licenced Floyd Rose. Fantastic trem and cheaper than an Edge/Lo Pro and OFR. Comes with locking studs too like the Edges.

Gotoh OFR is also considered to be superior to the Schallers or OFR floyds, by such guitar building luminaries as John Suhr.

Re: RG 470 question

meh do what you want with your guitar i have a 470 with the lo-trs II and i dont mind it at all, funny thing is i got most of the parts from lone phantom dont go with the masses try it out and if you hate it change it if you dont dont. sometimes knowing to much about something can make you think it is worse then it is. Had you never found this forum you wouldent think twice about the lo-Trs you like the guitar buy it.
