"just full the holes and drill new ones, it's under the guard and out of sight after all."

Ultimately you're right. I was fighting having to do that b/c a lot of the holes are just off a little but true, it will be out of sight so what's the big deal. Thanks for all the info everyone. Love this website.

Re: RG 5000?

regarding the pickguard, I don't want to point out who's to blame, because i don't have experience with them too..
I once ordered some local luthier to make a white pearloid pickguard customized to Humbucker- single only.. but when I did that, i left the original black RG 1550 pickguard with him, so he's got the correct measurement.

i don't think the body would change because you sanded it.
I think it's more like the aftermarket pickguard which not too perfect.

Aren't they basically a 565 with a 550 pickup set and a non-reverse headstock and mirrored pickguard?

Ya, to me those holes that are almost but not quit right are really aggravating. I found this really good paste to fill screw holes that need to be drilled partially in the filler. It's used for building fishing rods of all things, U-40 Rod Bond.

You have to buy enough to last 100 lifetimes of hole filling, but I've used it on a lot of other broken stuff with great results.

Re: RG 5000?

Thanks, I'll check that stuff out. I'm hoping to figure out first if my 550 is different from all other 550's/5000's before I start redrilling holes. I'm being a little stubborn about it, but I was planning on trying different pickguards and I don't want to redrill every time I do. I already have 2 aftermarket pickguards and the pickups aren't going to be in the right place b/c of this and one they drilled the volume pot hole to where I couldn't fit the pot in in the cavity.
