RG-770 Deluxe

I have a RG-770 Deluxe I recently acquired. It is black and has gold trim and the high-end tremolo. Any idea on it's value? It's kinda dented up and has belt-buckle dents, but paint is intact and the neck is straight with some dents where it was leaned up against stuff.

Thanks,

The RG770 DX hasn't to the best of my knowledge even been available in black. The colours produced were I recall, Candy Apple Red, Violet Metallic and Laser Blue, all with a maple board (with colour matched sharkteeth inlays) and cosmo black hardware.

If yours is a 770DX in black then I'd love to see pictures because I bet itlooks great (not sure about the maple board and the gold though?)

I KNEW that one would surface to haunt me when I'd posted

Ok with the exception of Kenny's BFP... I'm not sure about the maple board and the gold though?

I think it works on the BFP because the blue contrasts less starkly against the gold, almost like the maple and gold are unified by the busier appearence of a BFP, whereas there's a very obvious black/gold thing going on with this RG770 as I envisage it.

It's definitely an RG-770 guys. I saw it yesterday in person, and it's got a rosewood board, pearl sharktooth inlays, gold Lo-Pro Edge trem, gold tuners, volume and tone knobs, and locking nut. H-S-H config, V7 Neck S1 Single V8 Bridge. I thought for a moment that it might be a 750, but I believe they DID make 770s in black....All-Access Neck Joint, too, with a bubinga reinforcement stripe on the maple neck....scarf joint of course, no neck volute. Felt realllllllly smooth!

Greer, how ya doin buddy? Abe here, of course....hehehe....post that serial number, and I'm sure someone here can tell you what year and what model for certain.

Later
Abe

RG-770

Hey Y'all,

Thanks so much for the info. Thanks for the site and the verification Abe. I looked in the Guitar Blue Book, Jono, and it did come in black. Sniperfrommars1, I work at Willis Music in Lex. Green if you want to look at this axe. Just ask for Greer. I'll make you a good deal.

I have a Serial # of F9720178 for everyone's attention. This may help me in actually identifying this instrument.

So this would make this a 97 RG770?

Does that even exist?

Dude I stop by willis all the time, a few good amps, and some wolfgang specials. Your goods are definitely in acoustics and les pauls though. Ill drop by and say hello sometime what do you look like? Several months ago we all tried to categorize what all the model numbers mean. Its possible you have another version as the deluxe doesnt really mean rosewood with sharktooth inlays.

RG-770

sniperfrommars1,

I started working there in November. I'm the big old dude with the beard and hair who refuses to wear those Willis shirts! I'm usually in the back fixing guitars or helping out customers. This is my "retirement" job.

I'm not so sure now if this guitar is actually a 770. Trouble311 is my authority here and he really knows his guitars, especially Ibanez. He has seen and played it. I'm going to pull out the cheap digital and send some pictures, if someone can tell me how to do that in this forum.

Thanks all,
--G

You could pop the neck off and see if there are any stamps that could offer more insight. Might not be of any help, but...it's worth a try!

RG-770?

vaijem777,

Bingo, we have a winner, we have a winner!

It looks like this may be an RG550, as the stamping is "NRG550LD"

Thanks,

Nah, the Blue book is wrong, I checked the catalogues, I [i]knew[/i[ there was no black RG770DX.

The RG770DX was introduced in 1991and phased out in 1993. In 1994 the RG670DX which had the AANJ replaced the RG770DX. That guitar wasavailable in black, but the RG770DX, easily identified by it's maple board, was only ever available in the red, blue and purple colours I mentioned before.

The RG770 made a recent but brief appearence last year in the domestic Japanese range, but I don't recall it ever being made for the US or European markets with the AANJ.

There were however a number of RG570DX guitars and plenty of RG570EX guitars that closely resemble the RG770, but that come with an AANJ. These came with V7 and V8 humbuckers.
