RG Build!!

I decided to build a guitar for my Year 12 Design & Technology project. I'm doing a mahogany neckthru with 2 purpleheart laminates and purpleheart body wings.
Here's the details

Purpleheart body
5pc Mahogany/Purpleheart neck
Rosewood fretboard
Hardtail bridge w/string through body
24 jumbo frets
1 volume 1 tone 3 way with coil splits
Dimarzio Steves Special and Air Norton pickups (possibly Steves Special + ToneZone)
All hardware Cosmo Black

Should turn out something like this:

Got into the car after the bus dropped me off from school, and what did I see sitting in the passenger seat?

What could it be?

Re: RG Build!!

More:

The body is really heavy. It weighs 5kg (11 pounds) and the neck is 4 pounds. But since its neckthru, about 1/3rd of the body wood won't be used.

Wood with body blueprints:

Still need to make some templates from the blueprints

I should be starting in next week!

Re: RG Build!!

Thats ****ing awesome man. Most people just talk about actually building the guitars they build virtually, but your actually getting out there and doing it!

Anxious to see the final outcome!

I'm not usually a fan of neckthroughs with racing stripes, but that purple heart body looks amazing

Re: RG Build!!

Keep in mind that you need to clear the purpleheart to keep it purple; if it's oiled it will brown out eventually. Looks great though, good luck with the build!

Really? I was planning on doing an oil finish. If its going to change colour, I'll have to clear it then.

clear the body but oil the neck though, I reckon they get all sticky when your hands get sweaty.

Re: RG Build!!

My hands dont really sweat that much, but I still prefer a non cleared neck.
Also can anyone help with measurements for the neck? I'm doing a scarf joint with the joint behind frets 1-3 (like older JEM/RGs) Could someone give me the length of the headstock and joint, angle etc? And maybe a headstock template/outline thing (I dont own an Ibanez so I cant do it myself) I'd greatly appreciate it!

Re: RG Build!!

Try emailing Ernie at ET GUITARS, he's a really busy man, so yeah, might take a bit to get back to you.

http://etguitars.com/necks.htm

also says the headstock tilts back at 14 degrees.
