Re: RG identification

An RG550 normally has sharktooth inlays on rosewood fretboards, do they not ?? On maple fretboards, they'll have "dots".

I think it's the 570 that has sharkfins? I'm sure I've seen dots on a Rosewood 'board 550 .......

Re: RG identification

No, the RG550DX has sharktooth inlays. "Regular" 550's have dots whether it's a rosewood or maple board. The RG550LTD also had sharks on rosewood. 570 is the same as the 550. Identical except there's no pickguard. So, basically DX = sharktooth inlays, be it a 270, 350, 450, 550, and so on. One exception is the RG7xx series, they had sharks, even non-DX models.

I've increased the brightness on the original pic and blown it up. Now you might be able to see the trem a bit better.

correction Dee :
not all 'DX' means sharktooth.
check ibanez USA 92 catalogue, RG 550DX is a dot inlays but the dot is matching color with the body finish, and it's maple fretbaord.

Regarding the picture on this thread, I remember something...
somewhere in 99, there is japanese domestic model called RG450 DX, it's rosewood, matching color headstock, TRS trem, BUT.... V6 humbuckers and RTS single coil instead of V8/7 and S1.
So.. we have a dead lock here..
